Absolutely racing along now. Was a bit Minardi, but now positively Ferrari, or McLaren at the very least. Well done folks.

no no no - ducking before I hit him will merely mean he gets thumped higher up than I had in mind........
I want to be Jean Todt - he's the same height and shape as me anyway, so there'll be less of a change |

So, Grant, if Terri's Jean Todt, that means...
Was the server upgrade a five or six banana strategy?! |

The Google add on the index pages is a clever bit of code, I tried it on one of my pages and you get a totaly different set of adds up every time.

Is there any reason why the new server opens or attempts to open so many connections all the time? For example these were the connections opened when merely going to one of the index pages:
Active Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP jtel-p4:1388 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1389 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1390 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1391 66.102.7.104:http ESTABLISHED TCP jtel-p4:1392 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1393 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1394 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1395 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1396 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1397 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1398 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1399 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1400 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1401 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1402 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1403 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1404 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1405 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1406 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1407 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1408 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1409 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1410 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1413 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1414 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1415 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1416 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1417 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1418 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1419 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1420 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1421 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1422 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1423 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1425 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1426 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1427 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1428 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1429 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:ms-sql-s 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:ms-sql-m 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1435 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT TCP jtel-p4:1436 82.195.135.148:http TIME_WAIT Surely it shouldn't be trying to open so many and then try to keep them open. |

We're experimenting with connection states at the moment and deciding whether to use persistant connections or create "ad-hoc". There's plus and minus points for both and we're still doing some server tuning and testing. Thanks for your report and patience

It is working well now, not a single "server too busy" in days!
Just the odd niggle here and there, but that's most probably my prehistoric computer! |

OK - so all the connections have now been cleared up - a page now only opening 3 connecitons - much better.
But what is causing the 'stall' when every page is opened? Here I am on cable and opening any page - forum index, message etc takes around 5 seconds per page. Over the weekend on dial up it was 30 seconds per page. Is it the google or banner ads (seems most likely) seeing as they have to go out to other servers. |
