Tony Sturgess Delta

Hi

I bought the T78 from Roger White, I actually ran the car for him prior to buying it when I ran Formula Ford Spares with Colin Melhuish (who as you already know I sold the car to). I believe that Roger bought the car from an auction of repossessed/bankrupt items. Roger actually had a T79 or T80 too - not sure what happenned to that.

Tried to contact Roger a few times to no avail, think he is something to do with Rye House Kart Club.

I'll try to find some photos and scan tham and see what they look like !!

Tony

The following is a curiosity. All the observations were at Gurston Down hill climbs.

1982 Chris Paterson T79/82C-041 1.1 (I guess an Imp).
1983 exactly the same programme details and sighting.
1985 Chris Paterson and Tony Tewson shared a car called a T79/85 1.1 but with the same chassis number as before.
1987 entered as T79/81-4 for Paterson and Clive Wooster (I did not record the chassis number but it has to be the same car).
I just came across this thread and thought I'd upload some photographs of my Dad Chris's T79/81-4.

He shared this car with a number of people over the years including Tony Tewson, Mike Saunders, and even me!

It was an FF2000 that had been shortened for hillclimb use - running an imp canted over on methanol.

We used f3 qualy tyres that used to last for a full season!

Cheers
Mike

Hi i would like to ask if someone can tell me what is the car in the pictures.
I found it in a farm house sitting outside for many years .
I wonder if its worth saving it .
I would appreciate any info

Thank you.

It's chassis 038, we have it now and it is returned to FF2000 spec.

Delta FF2000

Hi Guys.

just found this thread and recognised one of the cars. Chris Patterson sprinted an Imp engined version of a FF2000 car and went very well. This was in the 80's. Not sure who has it now.

However, the one I always wanted was my friend's T79 owned by John Richardson, in SE London. he has owned it for years and won the Formula 4 (750 MC ) championship in it many moons ago. I understand that it has been down at Phil Price's Connaught Engine's workshop, for some restoration work with a view to converting it back to FF2000 spec.

It is a great car, ideal for stout people ! Ian knows John and can probably confirm which chassis it is.

I'm possibly looking at buying this off Bob / Ian to use in the HSCC series. Has anyone any new information on chassis 038 pre- Maybin? Those who know me know I like my cars to run in original liveries - so I'd like to know what it started out as in terms of owner/driver, colours and sponsors etc.

I believe the origional owner was Denis Mc Gall of Mondial fame. If so
This is the car that won the FF2000 feature race at Phoniex Park in 1980.
The car was all Navy Blue and ran with a Nelson engine. There
We're at least 3 T80 in Ireland at that time.

This is probably right, a little paint has chipped off the front of the body top, and it is dark blue underneath.
We have almost finished replacing all suspect parts identified while I raced it earlier this year.
To drive, it's the nicest FF2000 I have tried.

Me and Mrs Delta spent the weekend in Brighton , Could not resist the temptation to go and find where Delta all started. Here we are 10 Wilbury Grove, Brighton. B T W I have been contacted by two more Delta owners in Holland this year. Beginning to think they built did build up to 100 cars.

Good afternoon everyone.

We're reviving an old thread so we can get as comprehensive list of chassis numbers up and running.

It's been over 30 years since I took on building and running Delta's and have often talked about setting up an owners club. Well it's going to happen now.

Now all I need is for all Delta owners (past and present), Drivers, Friends to get in touch with info on their car as well as pictures and history .

Those that posted previously will get a PM from HQMsport (Bryan Hull) over the next few weeks who has agreed to start the register of chassis numbers and any known history.

I intend to get new delta chassis plates made up from 001 -100 . If your car does have a chassis plate you can have the same number to match existing number .

If in the meanwhile you wish to contact Bryan direct you can do at hqmsport @gmail.com (remove the space)

I'm now going to start working my way through this thread. Lots of great information already provided.

There are five chassis at Delta. Only 95 more to confirm, if Iain has his numbers right.

We don't expect to indentify them all but it'll be great to find out how many survive and how many are still in regular use.

Bryan

So a slow trawl this thread and I think we've indentified 20 chassis, including those here at Delta Motorsport.

It'll soon be time to contact those that have so generously provided info to confirm the current ownership.

Delta chap from 1979

I've just come across this thread and thought I would offer any thoughts I could as I fabricated most of the chassis between 1979 and 1982 and was one of the guys who built the Deltas from those chassis. Iain Rowley knows me as the guy who ran Bill Cowlings 784 Delta which as I recall was chassis 9

Do you know approximately how many were made and a guess at how many wouldn't have had a chassis plate fitted?

I have been contacted by one of my rallying contacts re a Delta in Eire, I'm awaiting details but it maybe one we already know about.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other forums or social media that can be used to find a few more cars and fill in some blanks?

You have confirmed what others have said. It's always good when multiple sources come up with the same answer.

024 is here at Delta but does anyone know where 043 is?

Thanks for confirming it's 009.

I don't suppose you've got the chassis records hidden away somewhere......

Chassis numbers don't appear to be linear, would this be correct?

As mentioned before a rally buddy of mine has notified me of a Sprint car in Ireland and the owner thinks it could be a T79 but the MSA and MI paperwork has it down as a T85 (maybe because of the bodywork) and there is a suspicion that it could be a T81......but no chassis number!

It's now fitted with a Honda S2000 engine and so I'll read through this thread again and see if the owner has already posted.

I had a good chat with Richard Peacock yesterday. He said he used his car from very early '78, but not for long. He says he sold it back to Crossley, who, he thought, used it for the 'works' entered Mike White car. Not sure this fits does it?
