Wow. I did not expect a BMW front-row lockout. A great job by the team. Also a shoutout to Adrien Tambay with 10th in only his second DTM race.

Too bad Farfus didn't take pole position. Would have been nice for one of the WTCC folks to take pole. Well, then Farfus has to take BMW's first victory instead .

"Schwerer Unfall" - is it meant heavy crash? In Sportscar-Challenge, Beat Eggimann. Is driver OK? It's reported he was taken to hospital.

Seriously, who would have expected that BMW is a serious victory contender in the second race of the season? Good job by Spengler, but also a good job by Farfus. He held off a strong Green over the whole race, and he got a well deserved third place.

Maybe but on the other hand all three manufacturers started with a clean sheet of paper and Schnitzer and RBM are no amateurs.

They seem to have nailed the rules with the new cars at least as that's two entertaining races so far.

I'm surprised Audi seem to be on the back foot a little.

So glad that BMW won the race.
I am happy to see Spengler had two good pit stops but they still needa improve the effectiveness of the pit crews.
Since they are not as effective as the Mercedes crews. As I remember, they only spent 3.0s for the first stop of Paffett.
A sec in the pit can make a huge difference.

That was not two entertaining races, I've never been so bored watching racing since Hungary's F1 rounds of the last decade.

Lauzitzing is NOT a great track and the DTM seems to be back to its boring worst, its already far too focused on pit stops rather than actual on-track racing.

As much as the new cars look a lot better than the old ones, if they don't put on racing worth watching then they might as will be invisible as people will find something better to watch.

Have you seen the past races at the Lausitzring? That track always made for boring races with the DTM, compared to that Sunday's race was a cracker.

There were a bunch of nice fights, even a bit of contact. The DTM will never turn into a second BTCC, that's not what these cars are made for.

But compared to the last years there's already visible improvement and the tires will be adjusted to allow more overtaking as time goes on.

Does anyone know what manufacturer is looking in to join DTM? Apparently there was a rumour going in the paddock.

I think it may be Nissan or another Jap company. It was in Autosport a couple of weeks ago, just not sure of who it was off the top of my head.

I thought it was an excellent race. Two battles less than 1 second apart for over 20 laps? That's brilliant racing, even if no passing. Spengler and Paffet had a good old fashioned drivers duel and it was great to watch. The fact they can race so close without being aerodynamically affected to a significant degree seems to indicate the new rules are working, and you can't fault the drivers for a lack of passing. Until the last lap, they were both essentially driving flawless races in equally matched cars. Pretty awesome stuff.

If they had some better circuits then the racing would be even better, and some additional manufacturers and cars would help even more. If the new rules prove to be successful over the season, and it seems economically better value than sports car racing, I think we'll see some other brands looking to jump in, especially if they can find better tracks to stage the non-German races.

Great race! I saw it in great quality on Youtube I'm very happy for BMW, a great comeback for the car that defines a German touringcar.
Very much looking forward to Norisring and Zandvoort, where i'll be at the grandstand :-)

I'm still kind of shaking my head at all the dive planes and aero bits that are on what are brand new cars. To me, those types of things are evolutions as cars age and people start looking for little advantages, etc. Starting with cars festooned with bits and bobs still disappoints me.

Certainly the entry of BMW stopped the tactical games that were ruining the show. Hockenheim was certainly action packed but Lausitz while tense didn't deliver the goods. But it's the circuit, it makes Rockingham look like Spa. All in all, it looks like a great season is in store.
