Ford Capri
Dumb question department in relation to the Ford Capri racing in Australia.
As a young lad in short pants, I remember seeing a fair few of the early Ford Capris in used car yards etc. The later model Ford Capris that raced at Bathurst in the early 1980's, were they sold new in Australia by Ford or were they imported by individuals from the UK? Where the later model Capris a V6? |

The later models weren't sold by Ford Australia and they were V6.

Only the Original series 1 were built (assembled) and sold in Australia from 1969 to 1972.
Series 1 update, 2 & 3 were not sold by Ford Australia, but were imported privately or as grey imports. Australian Capri's were either 4 (1.6) or V6 (3.0). European models sold as straight 4, V4 or V6. and the South African's did a factory approved (tolerated?) V8 conversion called the Perana. And let's never mention the laser based monstrosity of the 80's. |
