Collard in BTC-T?
Hey everyone!
Umm i can't think how to put this without being told off or something......er....on 'another' forum, i've just read that Rob Collard has bought Slights Astra from last year and will be in the Touring class this year. I don't know whether its true or not, can anyone shed any light on this? Cheers! |

By lookign at it. It seems to be posted by a member of the Collard team. So why wouldn't it be true?

Maybe he's just bought it? Barwell still had their Astras for sale in last weeks Motorsport News.

Well after seeing Slight's Astra impact on the wall at donington a matter of feet from me and the state of the car after two races, I wouldn't buy it. I was one of the Marshals on that post, actually the closest and we were suprised it came out for the second race. Perhaps the car has been completely rebuilt, I wonder if the brown stain from the seat came out. He hit the wall backwards at over 92mph. OUCH!

That original thread mentioned 'looking for a second driver' as well- is this the return of the Clio?

Or the second Barwell car perhaps...?
There is no confirmation that the Astra that is to appear in the STCC is actually a Barwell car. Triple Eight seem to need one car less than last year, don't they, maybe they sold that car already... |

Only two of last years 4 triple eight cars have been bought, both barwell cars were for sale, Chilton own's one, but since he's in a Honda he's likely to have sold it- Hence Swedish one. Slights car was advertised, so it is perfectly feasable that Rob has bought it.
Barwell did say that they would "assist" and "help run" the cars if the buyer requested so, and paid the right price. So it could be a Barwell supported Collard racing effort, if it was to happen. |

Only two of last years cars have been announced as sold...
Barwell were advertising BOTH their cars for sale as late as a couple of days ago... It'll all come out in the wash one way or the other. Personally I'd have thought it more likely that Collard would run a single car as, like Syncro, it's a fair old step up from BTC-P to BTC-T. |

from Collards website..
The car has been to 888 Race Engineering Ltd., where it has been back on it's manufacturing Jigs to have two new front chasis legs, a new rear floor and quarter panels. The car is now in mint condition. Work is beginning on the testing and the pit stop, with thought going into the livery. |

...and according to Autosport, 'Collard is in talks with an un-named driver to run his fast but hitherto unreliable Clio which has undergone engine work'
good news- I don't know whether it's a match for a Civic Type R, but in the right hands that car should be very competitive in Production, assuming they've finally got the engine problems sorted |

On the the 'other website', there's also a story in the news section confirming Collard has bought the car plus a few other suggestions about other teams ...

All driver and team applications have to be in by 28th Feb. So more plans for 2003 will be finalised within the next 14 days.

Scuse me if this has been answered only I skipped the middle replies... allegedly biz at work. As long as yer fingers are tapping and yer back's to the wall!! Anyway, it's probably old news now but Collard did buy one of the Barwell Astra's and it was pulled back into some semblance of shape by Triple Eight. He then tested the thing at Thruxton on 26/02/03. So Collard is mixing it with the big boys. Will be interesting. I'll say no more, except maybe... what goes around comes around.
