Perhaps it should be applied to modern programmes

Just look at the names there Sam. Unbelievable.
It really was the golden age and I feel so lucky to have seen some of these F2 races at the Palace. The final of the '72 F2 meeting was one of the best motor races I have ever seen. Hailwood's Matchbox Surtees versus Scheckter in the McLaren M21.

Rubens Barrichello - charming Brazilian, frequently the bridesmaid to his more illustrious team mate

Jenson Button - Darling of the british press young button has proved to be Britains top racing driver

Kimi Raikkkkkkonononenenen - Finnish, Quiet (dull?)

Fernando Alonso - rapid Spaniard has proven not only to be the finest swordsman in all spain, but also rather handy behind the wheel of a Renault

JPM - Festively plump Columbian, quick, when the mood takes him. Showed well in American series

Takuma Sato - Crash happy Japanese, with a fair turn of speed, darling of Honda.

Giancarlo Fisichella - promised lots a few years ago. Delivers with the reliability of Parcel Force

Filipe Massa - cheeeky Brazilian oik, goes quickly, in Brazil (other wise the only place he goes quickly - is off the track)

David Coulthard - The smoothest thing to come out of Scotland since a dram of Dalwhinnie known in Formula One circles as "the Jaw". DC is well overdue a trip to uncle Rons home for retired whingers (racing drivers)

Mark Webber - No worries, now that he's in a Williams

Jacques Villenueve - Won the world championship in 1997, bit **** now.

Micheal Schumacher - 7 times world champion (time to give up?)

Nick Hiedfeld - Holder of the Goodwood hillclimb course record, only thing worthy of note, might do better if he was in something a bit better than Jordan

Olivier Panis - Has retired, which is nice

Timo Glock - Who, sorry?

Ginni Bruni - probably set quicker time when being something of a wizard in F3, someone give him a decent car please!

Ralf Schumacher - Turned down Jordan, crashed in America, missed a few races, miserable, returned in Japan, Shame.

Ricardo Zonta - Mercedes pilot now drives the car in front....its about to be lapped

Christian Klien - Not a rentadriver, honest

Zsolt Baumgartner - Hungarian, won a German single seater series once, must have been a quiet year then.

Yes, the names like Tetsu just aren't around nowadays.

That is an enjoyable read. The guy driving the Coombs car was on Johnnie Walker (BBC R2) show tonight. He must have been on over twenty minutes and they even played The Chain. Michael - the most successful driver in Formula 1 history

Rubens - about to spend his 6th season with Ferrari

JPM - Fiery Columbian who has made some unbelievable overtaking moves

Ralf - Unpredictable and occasionally fast

Kimi - Proved many wrong when he made the jump from Formula Ford, won at the classic Spa track in 2004

DC - Fifth in the alltime point-scorers list, has done a record number of races for one team

Jarno - Won the Monaco Grand Prix, and the 1996 German F3 title, named after a Finnish rally driver

Alonso - Heavily backed by Flavio Briatore, the youngest Grand Prix winner ever

JV - Faded champion looking for a fresh start

Button - Silly name, fast driver. His podiums have game like buses - none for 4 years, then 10 in 6 months

Sato - Better not use words like 'samurai', 'kamikaze' or 'banzai' to descibe this fast and aggressive youngster

Davidson - Diminuitive chap with a very outspoken dad

Fisichella - Never in the right team at the right time, but a race winner all the same

Massa - Similar to Sato, but not as fast, and still wilder

Webber - Does a lot of charity work, promising driver who has a chance to prove himself now

Klien - Has wings, but doesn't know how to use them

Wirdheim - The latest F3000 champion to be ignored by F1 bosses

Panis - Careful how you spell the name of this likable Frenchman

da Matta - Fact of da Matta is that he's finished (sorry)

Zonta - Career test driver who had the odd chance

Briscoe - European Formula 3 champion, long-time Toyota protegé

Heidfeld - Seems to Heid from publicity, though many Feld he deserved a better drive

Pantano - Hasn't made the grade yet

Glock - Impressive though unspectacular young German

Doornbos - Impressed as a rookie in F3000

Bruni - Modest at best

Baumgartner - Hungarian who's Not as bad as people thought

Leinders - Famous for crashing on his first lap in an F1 car.

My dad went to the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in 1974.
In the program there's a picture of each driver, his (or her, 2 women divers I think there are in the program) car, and a brief paragraph about them.

I know he won a race in the German Formula Renault in 99, but did he win the series?

I think it actually says "won a German single race series" on his CV. The 'F1 Drivers of Hungary Annual Showdown,' I believe.
