Formula Brands at Oulton

Now I'm fully prepared for this thread to be moved into another forum, but I'll try it in here anyway....

Does anyone know much about the Formula Brands cars used for the 'gift experiences' at Oulton? Audi-engined I believe, but don't know much else. I'm going soon hopefully as a belated birthday present.

Any info would be much appreciated!

They're pretty similar looks-wise to FPA, but with less power, as far as I know.

I believe that they are all now at Silverstone. I heard that when Palmer took over he was shocked to see over 40 cars missing.

I agree with Sprocket, I believe that the "Formula Brands" cars are very similar to the Formula Ireland Cars (which have 2 ltre Zetec engine and space frame construction) built a couple of years ago and themselves vitually identical to the FPA cars which, of course have the turbo charged 1.8 litre Audi engine in them. The "Formula Brands" cars have standard 1.8 litre Audi engines which should mean that power output is about 140 bhp, plenty for an experience day. The cars are also in the stable at Brands Hatch.

As an aside Van Dieman also proposed a "Project 281" which was very similar except that it was supposed to have a Honda Blackbird engine in it. Not sure that any ever raced.

The Silverstone Race School uses Zeus Formula Ford Zetecs (built specially for the school and able to acommodate those with a "fuller figure", and running on treaded tyres) and Formula Firsts.

I've driven both the firsts and the Fords and have to say I found them a bit sterile... perhaps thats because I'm used to going sidewards more

I seem to remember that at one time they had about 3 FF1600s' - Royales I think. But the old memory is going with advancing years. Possibly about the same time as OPRC was a race organising club.

Good job they haven't now then innit? You would have probably ended up in it, as there wasn't a nice, thick, stone wall to impede your progress.
