Rumors from Winton
well I heard a few rumors while i was at Winton ..so i thought I would post them here.
Mike Imrie was there apparently checking out a truck ..he is rumoured to be taking it up next year doing the driving himself..look out Ingall The V8 stockcars are saying next year they will have up to 30 cars at each round..which would be very exciting thats for sure ..there was only a handfull at Winton and they were great so 30 would be awesome. Paul Pickett of the daewoo series made an announcement of another one make series that he is starting next year ..he wouldnt say the manufacturer involved but said it is vey exciting ..another thing I heard and you may already know this but the winner of this years daewoo series (looking like Ian Kegg at this stage) will get a full year in the Konica V8 series next year ..what a great prize for winning the daewoo series that is. www.chanceofalifetime.com.au check this URL for the details. thats about all really..but it sounds like the power tour is really taking off and I wish every success in the world as i had a great day out (even got sunburnt ) |

Yeah, I'm surprised the sun was out in Victoria
(Ooooops, that was the kiss of death- it's now going to bucket down all weekend ) Imrie- He has ties with Pitmann trucks I think... 30 Stockcars? There were going to be 20 BRutes at Bathurst Paul Pickett- the problem is at present that the Daewoos run to GTP regs, something which they have tried to change over the years. If a new class comes along, I hope they wind up the Daewoo series, the last thing we need is another category... |

They were mentioning the new one make series at the Oran Park round as well. They were saying that the Daewoos would stay with Powertour (pronounced Powatoowa with an Arnie accent) but that the new one make series in the works would support the V8 Supercars.
That makes me think Ford Lasers or maybe Holden Astras as they said the cars would be a step up from the Daewoos. |

If they are a step up from the Daewoo's then maybe Vectra's or Mondeo's.

Just like there are a gazillion Super Tourers in people's garages...
All of the Nascar people got their hopes up in the middle of last year when they had a demonstration run at Indy, and with the prospect of having a proper gig there this year, because the V8s weren't going to come. But of course, the V8s did come, and the Stockcars were left out in the cold. Now with TOCA running the show, there is somewhere in the region of buckleys to no chance of them getting a run next year. I'd like to see some big names have a punt around in them. Get Russell Ingall and Jimmy Richards back. In fairness to the current crop, their upbringing on circle tracks means that none of them are serious threats to Andy Miedeckie, all things being equal. A few of them look like they'll come good, like Tony Southwell and George Elliot, but it takes time. But hey, they are the most defening of all circuit racing vehicles |

I thought the same thing, what have TOCA got to do with them, i thought MPG was running V8 Stock Cars.
It would be good if the V8 Stock Cars/NASCARS (remember when they were ACDelco Cup Cars)whatever they are called now can have a run on the Thunderdome again. Interesting that NASCAR started to go down hill when they introduced sprint races at the Dome. |

I'm led to believe it will indeed be a Mini series & for all us Mini enthusiast it should be quite enjoyable, it will be interesting to see if it's as good as the East Coast Mini series was 20 or so years ago. I certainly hope so.

Someone explain to me how a mini or a VW (unless it's the Bora) are a step up from the Daewoo series.

The thing is that Mini's have a cult following, and the new look is growing on many people. Who here thinks the Daewoo Lanos is a classic?
Interesting about the Mini- originally BMW is thought to have put a ban on people racing them, but that kind of changed when they were put down to do the celebrity races at the AGP. Hrmmm...Minis, Daewoos, Mirages, and to an extent some of the things Procar do- are we way past the saturation point with regards to the number of pay-per-drive series we have? |

Crash,
As long as they are getting full fields, I guess not. I suppose it's a sign of the times that people have the money to go racing but can't be botherered preparing, maintaining and transporting a race car. Racer69dude, Having shared the track with the Daewoos, I can assure you anything would be a step up. My 30 year old Dastun is worth about 5 grand and I was rounding them up by 4 seconds a lap, whilst tooling around learning a new track! |

I for one don't think you'll ever hear the words Daewoo & classic used in the same sentence.
