Telemetry
Would People be interested in renting a telemetry system as opposed to buying one for test days/racecs?
How much would you pay and what would you want out of it? |

I think the setting up of a Data Logger (which is what I assume you mean as opposed to a telemetry system, coz they beam back to the pit wall every lap the data of the car) would be far too much hassle for a days testing, the loom would be the wrong length for every car and to integrate it in a way that would not interfere with the car would be a bit of a mare, for example the pick-up for the speed sensor may be different for each car it could be a bolt on a hub or a disk or whatever works or fits. it takes a day or so to fit so I dont really think the rental costs would warrent the benefits.
Money may be better spent on a driver coach matt |

If you do mean telemetry you will find it is banned in all levels of club motorsport. If you are not in F1, world sports cars etc it is a nono.

I should prbably explain this better (my own fault)
I am wondering about the possible market for a datalogging system that could quickly be moved from car to car by using technology simliar to the "bluetooth" stuff we see out now. This would form a sort of in car wireless network that would terminate at a datalogging box mounted somewhere in the car, like the drivers compartment. it wouldn't send telemetry to pitwall or anything, just record it on the datalogger. it would also make iteasier to switch the system, on a sort of rental basis and do different sensors based on what different people want, maybe even mounting an in car camera or two that feed back to the datalogger. Hope that makes better sense I should have explained it better to begin with |

Yeah - It is a good idea put you would still need to splice into the cars' loom for a lot of the data - Temps for example..

This has been attempted before .... All data systems rely on a proper installation. Many systems get kicked into a corner of the workshop because " its doesn't work " The reality is that wheelspeed sensor fell off after a quick trip through the gravel etc....
The easiest would be a logger with an internal G sensor that an recieves info from the ECU ( only 2 wires ) plus a speed sensor. They are available. |
