MotoGP, V8s in date clash...(Bathurst)

here

Quote:
The Bathurst 1000 and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island are poised to go head-to-head on October 7 next year.
Motorsport fans will have to make a choice amid concerns the clash could have serious ramifications for both events.

The clash will also see rival television networks, Seven and Ten, going head-to-head.

There is no way they will hold the two events on the same day.

These are two of Australia's biggest, most televised and most attended motorsport events. If they hold these together the crowds will be down at both events.

Why not??

They are 900km apart & compete for a totally different crowd market.

I may affect a few marshals who will have to choose but we have other events when Bathurst or the Moto GP or even the Superbikes are on.

I don't think competing crowds will be a problem, but competing TV audiences may be another story.

I am going to start tapping V8 Supercars next year. (I have started taping Saturday races this year) I don't want to watch the Moto GP and tape and watch the Bathurst later because Bathurst will be live and Moto GP will not and I am a bigger fan of V8's than I am of Moto GP. What am I going to do? I might tape the Moto GP, watch Bathurst live and ask someone else to tape Bathurst for me.

This isn't good news.

Watch the Grand Prix, then by the end of the race it should be time for the last Bathurst safety car and you can watch the final sprint race.

The bikes at Phillip Island clashed with the Bathurst 1000 in 1997 and 1998, didn't turn out to be too much of a big deal.

The only way it would majorly affect Bathurst media wise is if Casey Stoner or Chris Vermuelen are in championship contention.

In 1997 & 1998, the Bathurst 1000 was run for Super Tourers which themselves turned out to be not a very big deal. The V8 Supercars staged their own 1000km race at Bathurst in November.

Where was this written?

Not doubting you, just that according to the World Superbike website anyway, their calendar for next year has not been released yet.

A real shame to have this happen, won't really affect either event spectator wise i wouldn't think, be a pain in the arse for the armchair viewers like myself having to juggle two live telecasts!

It is.. it means I am in Melbourne in the cold rain/snow/hail at Sandown while I miss out on the Muscle Car Masters... which will have less interest from the modern day stars because they will be where I am

Not only is this event on the same week as Sandown but the same weekend as a major Drag racing meeting(East Coast Nationals) next door at Wisid. The Promotor who shall remain nameless(A.R.D.C) was for warned of the Drag meet date and has had several months to reshedule the very popular Muscle Car Masters so that it did not clash withThe Drags or the shifted Enduro date.

Wasn't there another thread somewhere about how to help Eastern Creek???

The drag meeting is on Friday and Saturday nights I think so won't conflict with the Masters on Sunday.

it was on the local news last night. Vic has re-signed the WSB for the next five years at PI and along with that they announced the WSB dates for PI next year

i guess its similar to we know the clipsal dates but not the v8 calender for next year. as its only 6 monts away
