=======================

On the subject, can anyone clarify the engine situation in the series? I thought a more powerful Mecachrome engine was introduced in 2007, but other sources suggest the original Zytek (as in FIA F3000) is still used. I presume all teams are running the same engine (some team websites state Renault-Mecachrome, some Zytek)

Also, some teams and entry list call certain cars Lola B06/50... I remember there were aerodynamic and gearbox modifications on the Lola B02/50 for 2006, but is there any kind of official recognition for the B06/50 type name? Lola Heritage doesn't list it.

The cars were updated in 2006. They use Zytek, 3.4l IIRC, pretty much the same as the LMP2 motor.

I think the engine is 4.0 V8 Mecachrome unit and last year they introduced some aero addons, like front wing and chimneys. With this config, someone(may be Rigon) beat Pantano's F3000 record at Magny Cours.

The 4.0 V8 Mecachrome unit is the BMW motor used in GP2.

F3000 is Zytek, 3.4 litre.

Thanks all. You'd think google would have picked up the Lola website! I'm still confused though, as the cars are generally all called Lola B02/50 in entry lists etc.

Euroseries 3000 did announce a deal (12th January 2007) to run Mecachrome 500HP engines from that season -

A boost of power for the new Euroseries 3000
A Mecachrome 500 BHP engine is ready

After the announcement in December of an aerodynamic restyling, the 2007 Formula 3000 has now also a new heart: a deal has been signed between Mecachrome and Coloni Motorsport for the engine supply of the Championship starting from this season. The French Engine Manufacturer, already engaged also in GP2 and Grand Prix Masters, has shown a big interest in the Series and has decided to invest its proved experience in realizing a specific 500 BHP engine for the F.3000, at which we can now think as the GP2 younger sister. This is a V8 90°, 3,4 liter engine with a quite moderate weight (123 Kg) and the chance to cover up to 4.000 Km between services. The control unit is a Magneti Marelli Marvel 8.
So did the GP2 organisers put a stop to that or something?

It's not that complicated. The cars are the same B02/50's, they've just swapped names with the upgrade pack (B06/50). I assume they all run the same package since it's monomake.

Yes, this is the news I remember, though I thought it was 4.0. But I think JohnMiller is right, there's a link to Zytek on their website, so I guess they have used the Mecachrome engine just for 2007.

http://www.zytekgroup.co.uk/Default.aspx?tid=158

It is a 3.0l Zytek engine and the wording of this article suggests they have used Zytek engines every year since 2005.
