ye nice to meet you al and everyone else. racing with the crxs was nice and i thoroughly enjoted starting at the back after a stop in race 1 to check if id picked up a flatty after a 360 in that bendy bit.... which turned out to be the tracking on o/s rear wheel knocked well out of line,and a loss of rubber on one tyre

sorry to see gareth had left early after getting pulled for leaking fuel before race 2.hope to see you all again soon.

I got home fine thanks Al. Thanks once again for the hand-held and sorry to the rest of you guys for my wheel coming off and red-flagging race 1.

I couldn't understand why they hadn't lined us up correctly at the start of Race 1. You should have been in front of me Colin which was why I left a big gap in front as I kept expecting you to come and take your place.

Anyway, apart from the sound testing fiasco, it was an OK day despite my probs.

I really liked the rolling starts, great way with a powerful car to try to make up a place or two at the start apart from making a hash (twice) and braking for the chicane on the first lap (duh). On the last race starting from a reasonable 5th with an inside slot I had a plan to outdrag the field into the first turn and hold them all up for a lap to make it more interesting for the crowd (I know I would have yielded soon enough) and was well on my way to doing it when the lights went out then like a twit I braked for the chicane, exactly what I did on the first race, I think I am getting too old for this lark, too tight as well as I should have run with another 20 litres in the tank, there you go though all part of lifes experience. Introduce rollers to all UK racing, way to go!

We usually have rolling starts in DT&R, mind you with 30 plus cars it is usually the safer option.

Morning all,

I enjoyed yesterday thoroughly, it was nice to be racing against some smilar cars. I think the rolling starts may have been overkill with a small grid on a big cicuit with plenty of room, but I think generally they are safer and they offer a slightly fairer start in some cases. Conversely of course, some of us show our inexperience on starts and end up last for a couple of laps...

I found it good experience and a good circuit to race on, there aren't many where you're flat out in top for half a mile (certainly not on banking as well). I also think for the money it's a bargain and I will certainly look at doing it again.

I finished 7th overall, not bad for only my second ever race. And I don't think I disgraced myself too much.

Had a great time guys, good to meet you all and thanks to the Marshals and BRSCC. Didn't see any of the sound police get a polite wave in turn 4, 2 of them there!

Had a bit of a quite but fun drive between the front guys and the rest of you matching my pace in my mirrors. Thought I would pace myself and car in the last race which is just as well as my arms still ache today from the vibration (understatement) under braking.

Gareth hope you get your wheel/corner re attached.

Had fun in my red/silver crx against Colin and Jamie, lets do it again. Thats two all now Colin!

The rolling starts were fun, reminded me of the Super Coupes. I did remember we weren't using the chicane but forgot to take a decent line through turn 1, had to hang of for a few seconds! We originally used rolling starts due to performance differences but it often meant we had accidents some 50mph faster at the first corner than from a standing start. Then again if people don't pay attention you can get start accidents in either format.

Right, I'm off on Holiday now... :-)

Do you think they fled when they saw you wiggling towards them?

I really enjoyed it, the lady from BRSCC said they're going to do it more often so I'll definitely keep an eye out. Will do it again without question.

My shoulders are done in today too!

Tell me guys, are you aches and pains because you had minor shunts because my ruddy neck is playing up today as well. I wonder if one of those collar things would help like that guy in the KAD mini was wearing (that was quick as well!).

nah al mine was from a spin in that squigly bit and an airborne moment on the grass after sliding wide on that last right hander before you join the main track. would have been nasty if i hadnt been going straight! all my fault as id not checked the rear caster/camber after cadwell and must have knocked it out. still im lucky to have a mechanic with good eyesight. he set it before the last race and it was a different car. i think denis is an expert on neck supports.

Only HANS devices and whinging about the purchase/installation costs!

It is unlikely that a HANS device would help with fatigue induced neck ache, the tethers are just too loose for that.

Try riding a 180MPH motorbike 25,000 miles a year, does wonders for my neck muscles!

Are you sure? I thought it was a miracle-cure prevention for all injuries!

Seriously though, Rockingham does seem to hurt your neck and shoulders more than other circuits. I remember racing there in a Mini a few years ago, and that Tarzan corner (long left hander before the hairpin on the infield next to the assembly area) and the banked turn 4 really began to hurt at the end of our two 20 minute races, so I can imagine the pain you guys are in!

It must be because we're not used to long left-handers..

Nooooo don't even start that one again.

You want a car with no torque to speak of so you actually slow down round the banking and it doesn't hurt at all!

My car was seriously strong around turn 4 and onto the straight (at least till the fuel level went down and it started missing slightly) and I admit I did stay down low on the corner and feather the throttle slightly as I lost the bottle to go in their flat after looking at that SCCA car going into the wall there. I think it must have put a fair bit of strain on the old neck as I feel a lot better today, I also felt sick in the first session, something to do with a bacon and egg (and fried onion) bap washed down with a bottle of coke I think!

i feel qweezy just thinking about it

could be dehydration Al, if i dont drink plenty of water prior to a race i wil feel sick towards the end, likewise, once the race is over a good glug of wet stuff is required to stop me feeling ill

HANS is designed to prevent over-extension of the spine in the event of a sudden deleration, but does not support the head in any way in normal racing. I see some people with foam neck supports, but I think they're really designed for keeping your head upright on a kart where the direction changes are fairly sudden.

Oval racers tend to have padding alongside the seat, and I'd suspect this is the only answer to Turn 4 which is probably the source of your discomfort - it's not like any other corner you drive on simply because of the duration of the G-loading. It would be a bit of a nuisance in the right-handed bits, though.

I've chucked in a bike crash helmet before, your first problem is you can't see where you are going!

Looking down from the gantry we saw that the mini driver (sorry, not got my list of names with me here at work) was nearly late out for the second race as his assistant came running from the back of the garages with his neck support. I thought at the time that it was a bit excessive protection, after being used to seeing the SCSA & Pickup drivers without them, but from what you guys are saying it was obviously a good move.

Yes Al I think I may look into one of those as it happens. I had a good look around an SCCA car and they do have a head rest to one side which would obviously elevate the problem, that Mini was damned quick though was'nt it, proper bit of kit actually with a twin cam head etc? He was keen to go back as it happened and asked me if this was a regular thing or just a one off.

At least one of the sportsfotos shots shows quite clearly that the mini driver owes us 15 icecreams
