A sneaky trick, not mentioning that it's at Rockingham! If it was on the oval perhaps...

The long run down to Combe for TRC, or 40minutes up to the Rock.....

I hate it when that happens.

Decisions decisions.....

Darnit.

But have you done the infield circuit, Graeme's post seemed to suggest he did not like it.

There's load of different variations and this years races take place on the Sportscar variant, a shorter 1.62mile version that, in my opinion, is better and more flowing than either of the International layouts.

I've not raced there but trackdayed it twice, its a mix of fast, slow corners, a few chicanes and a hairpin and of course the banked straight, I like it and this looks like a good day out, might enter

The races will (probably, as all other infield formulas race on it too) be on the Sportscar circuit. If you're not familiar with the layout, look at http://bookatrack.com/-pV?31, the Sportscar course is like this, but at the 'turn 3' area, you follow the link out to the oval, rather than doing the 'second half' of the infield. Once out onto the oval, you're flat chat down to T1 chicane.

Go on Al - let's see your V8 in action!

Does it, thats interesting, more left bends that right then, just right for my left hooker and do you actually use any of the banked circuit?

Yes, you use the banked circuit from just before turn four to the chicane at turn one (which is bypassed on the first lap) - so about a third of the oval is used, maybe a little more.

Ooh, it's okay I suppose but there's no real challenging corners. Lots of trick corners - 2nd and 3rd gear with apexes not quite where you expect them to be - but no ballsey nearly flat out 4th gear ones (okay, maybe one). If you've not been there, it's certainly worth doing - but don't expect Cadwell or Oulton.

A few years since I've been to Thunder Sundays, but good crowds and atmosphere.

No challenging corners???

The Turn One chicane is one of the best corners in the UK, near flat out in top in anything.

Turn 4 of the oval in the damp - no challenge?! You will be frightened rigid the first you go flat though that even if it's bone dry.

Chuck in a last-of-the-late-brakers hairpin immediately after the fastest straight, a 90 degree street-circuit type right, and a couple of quick S bends - one of which is absolutely critical to the lap time, and another right-hander and two left-handers in sequence.

You actually use about 2/3rds of the oval but only the one banked corner.

Laptimes in FF1600 last year were in the 1.11 bracket, so plenty of laps too in 20 minutes.

Try it Al. And then tell me you didn't suffer from a tightened sphincter the first time you went through Turn Four, and then realised you'd turned in about 400 yards too early!

Must help sitting on the LH side of the car!

It looks really good, I am interested. The CTRCC are off to France and I ain't going there and I may as well get thrashed here as by the T&R Car boys :-) I wonder what race on the calender it is replacing.

Give it a go Al (and others), the sportscar circuit (as described very well by John above) is much better for sprint racing than the full international circuit which tends to get spread out too much with the 3 hairpins.

The raceday on Sunday should be (if there's enough interest in this saloons race) 2x Saloons Races (20m) + 1x Practice session, 2x VSR races (20m), 2x SCSA Stockcar (ASCAR as was) (laps TBC depending on numbers(series still in recovery), and headline series 2x PickUp truck races (30laps)

Not too frantic a day (weather permitting), looks like the saloons will get pit allocation as well.

Don't think it's replacing any meeting, it's just that the booked support is the Uniroyal Funcup 4hr race and that's on Saturday, so there's a slot in the programme.

Hope to see you (and many others) there

Al

Entry form being faxed this morning (in a few minutes)

Is there any testing at the circuit prior to the event?

Come on Al, let's put another V8 on the grid... unless Mr Wills is coming out to play again to make it 3.....

Rob.
