Race Car Storage and Transit insurance?
My usual insurer of my race car and trailer has stopped providing a service for Storage and Transit insurance. Can anybody recommend a reasonable insurance company? I have tried competition car insurance, and they seem a little expensive, i.e. twice what i used to pay!

How do they calculate rates? Do they use the value of the car (difficult to determine I would have thought) or do you tell them the amount of cover you want.
What's the legal situation on insurance for a competition car, I've just started to test a Locost and am planning to start racing it soon, are there any legal requirements for towing, racing etc? Sorry, I'm new to the racing game, only ever done trackdays before. |

Thanks all for the contacts. I have had a couple of quotes now. It seems that the average rate is approx £150 for car trailer and tools in storage at home or at the track and in transit. This is cheaper than my original quotes that were around the £200 mark. Also I have noticed that the premium stays the same with car values up to £25,000 and trailer values up to £5,000.

Mark,
There are no legal requiremetns for you to have insurance whilst racing. The organisers will arrange a 3rd party policy to cover race and tests. You have the option of having personal injury insurance, insurance for your car that covers racing (v expensive!) or just insurance for your car, trailer and tools when they are stored or in transit. You dont have to have trailer insurance legally for towing on the road. Sorry if this is teaching granny to suck eggs but just remember you cant go in the fast lane with a trailer! Its suprising the amount of people who dont realise, especially the ones who hog the middle lane so you cant overtake.... dont get me started about those......!! |
