driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
was he drunk?
Col bevan Imps
Gp 2 cars 3 existed
George sold 1 to finland ice racer
the T car was sold to driver who ran it at the time
Bills winning car went to the factory museum in france they will never sell such a prized possession !

the special saloon cars 1 litre was paul H-h and malcolm Johnson i think he wrote it off
the 2 litre went im sure to Paul H-h when malcolm took the 1 litre car
malcolm had the homewoood 1 litre car for sale in Feb 78 said the homewood imp was in ireland

Bevan IMP should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi Driftwood

I am not sure you got it correct with the Bevan IMPs.

The 1972 championship car went to Less Nash (Purple Eater). I am not sure what happened after that.
The 1973 twin head lamp car was destroyed.....

One car went to Germany !!!!!! (i have pictures of it being driven by Hans XXXXXXX ??

I think the second 73 car was used as a special saloon

The story behind the factory museum came from Glyn Parham who is on the forum. I have contacted them and they know nothing about it !!!!!.
I was quite concerned as I new we didn't have enough money to buy it back.

I KNOW WHERE THE 1969 CAR WENT !!!!!

I actually have a Bevan IMP in my garage, its a shame that my Grandfather is not here to see it.

George told me aged 10/11 ( me not George !!) as i stood next to the car that it was off to france to the museum

when i said 1 car went to finland for ice racing i did have in my head that a german had 1 of Georges cars
the problem is noone really knew what George had a srace cars prior to the 70/71 Gp 2 racing
I now recal Bill wrote off 1 car a 2nd car wa sbuilt BUT there was a T car that was race dby another guy not Les

prior to Imp he raced the FPE anglia and later 87/8 89 mk1 lotus cortina in pre 65 classic saloons

so the obvious question on everyone slips is or are you looking at keeping us in suspense?

what year are these fotos 1973?
ive given my british touring car book away to mu N mate so i cant look up about the 2nd car ( T car and who drove it) but iot was a roller and then the 2nd driver fitted it out to race and support Bill to get some points for manufacturers points.
I do recall that the car was a used car not a pukka George built car

Sorry for getting a bit of the special saloon thread !!!!!!

Driftwood,

Do you mean these two cars, this makes 4 as they have fibreglass arches.

I think the pictures were taken in 1972 as the car has 123 which I presume stands for the 3 championship wins.

Hi Jon.

My source for the story was a friend who lives in France and had claimed to have seen the car in the museum and asked about its history etc. The above is what he was told by someone working at the museum and he had no reason to doubt it at the time.

Sorry if I have sent you on a bit of a wild goose chase Jon but I will chase up my friend for more information for you.

Gregor,
Have you been a little harsh on Paul Lawrence? The article was a piece of nostalgia. Most of it was correct although there were errors. The fact that very few of the cars are seen these days may have suggested that many have not survived. The picture of Mallory Park, which I think is the Easter Monday Supersaloon race won by Doug Niven was illustrative of the first year of Supersaloons. Mistakes include Nick Whiting used an FVC in 1974, not a GAA. The Super Saloon Association was formed in 1974 at the Silverstone meeting during which Big Bertha met its end, although Tony Strawson and Tony Hazlewood “organised” a race at Silverstone in October 1973. Did Martin Birrane race that Capri in 1974?

Nothing to add but another photo from the 73 TT

Interesting to note that the door is not totally stripped out and still has somewhere to put the programme!!

Maybe the dude on the right hand side needed somewhere to put his wig, tash and shades set when he'd finished prowling around the paddock

Maybe Alan but I donít think incorrect articles and poorly researched ones at that are worth publishing Ė I like things to be correct when in black and white.
The only reason the cars are rarely seen is what can they do? Even when they are shown our author canít even get the names of them right!!

Gregor, I could not agree more about the need for accuracy. One of the problems that I am meeting in trying to build up a season by season account is the variations in the contemporary reports. For instance Bill Cox's Capri is sometimes said to be Chevy-engined and sometimes Chrysler-engined. The two different makes are also used for Martin Kent's Rapier.

Would it not be wonderful if the Silverstone Classic had a display/parade of special saloons (and maybe thundersaloons)?
