Next time I'll be ready!

Got a sequence at Oulton on Saturday (this being 1 of many) thinking that it was on AF when it wasn't. Was focused on the closer stuf when this XR3i came into view and followed it through only to find they were all a tad unsharp #*#*#*#s! Next time baby!!

Wow, that is a bit close for comfort. Hope everybody managed to get out of the way early enough.

Jeez....take it the marshal moved quickly enough?! What actually happened? Be interested to see the whole sequence.

That incident shows one of the reasons I do not like to stay in the Obs hut. They can come in, you can't get out.

Yes, looked like there was nowhere for them to go - maybe just a set of steps at the back would help? I wouldn't want to have nowhere to run and as the above pic shows, it is possible for them (in this case, nearly!) be hit.

There is a set of steps, but the car can get there an awful lot quicker than the marshals. Some of the posts have debris fencing in front of them, so perhaps consideration should be given to extending that feature. Ideally, any post that you get inside (flags or obs) should either be protected or should be able to stand up to being hit and look after its occupants.

By the look of the end result in MN the post appears to be fairly solid but the escape route is definately on the wrong side - if it was at the rear then the post would all ways be between any fleeing marshalls an the erant car. Apparently they closed Eyes tightly and ducked !!!!

They're mostly brieze (sp?) block. They'd stand up to a reasonable ding, but I wouldn't trust them entirely in a direct hit. Plus no protection at head height. That said, they're an awful lot better than at many circuits, so I don't want it to sound like I'm having a go - I'm not. At some places (Water Tower, for instance) there a section of debris fence just ahead of the post, which is much better. Silverstone mostly has some sort of debris fencing too, which feels safe. I've never been able to decide if Donington's post are really stout or terribly weak. They look the former, but I have dobts, and several of them have no way out in a hurry as the fencing is too close behind. At Mallory, I'd stand almost anywhere but inside the boxes!

Too true the car can get there quickly Woolley. Did see the steps at front but some at the rear as well or instead was what I was thinking of - as Barry said, easier to get out if car coming. The posts look like they would stand up from what I've seen but if there's an "escape route" at back means obs etc can (try to) escape and maybe also miss any debris which could possibly come raining down.

Does seem a bit of a silly place for it. And right in the firing line too.

An amazing accident. Was the driver ok?
