What is the incentive for the privateers to be there? I mean, I don't see a lot of sense in spending much more money to still be 5+ secs off the leader's pace.

For what it's worth the hybrid cars can put down single qualifying laps quite a bit quicker than they can actually run continuously. There was also a time there was 9s just covering all the 956s at a normal sized track.

That can't be right, things were better in the old days
Having said that people were happy, or at least OK with, being 9s off the pace then. After all they were at least on the grid. Why not now? |

They'll have to be given better performance breaks than lmp2. The first thing is the weight. They're currently 850 or 830(?)kg vs 930kg in lmp2 and probably more power will be made.

Perrinn has announced that it has sold a pair of its 2018 LMP1 chassis to a European team which will take part in the 2018 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Morand perhaps? Can't be KCMG as they are not European and those were the rumored teams looking for a car last time I heard.

Great news.
I wonder if one of their trusted suppliers in the Northamptonshire area is Cosworth. |

So we could have 2x Perrin's, 2x BR's, and 2-4x Ginettas, joining the Kolles car?
Let's all keep our toes crossed that these entries happen firstly, and secondly that they can keep well ahead of LMP2. Oh, and they are reliable enough to fight with each other regularly I'm honestly not bothered about them having the chance to hit a overall podium if the factories struggle one race. Nice if it happens but not the be all and end all |

The ByKolles managed to beat the LMP2s quite handily at Spa and I'm pretty sure that car does not exploit the LMP1 rulebook to its fullest or is indeed running as fast as it could.
I don't think beating LMP2 on pace will become a problem. |

Totally, and being ahead of the P2s is all want to see, I don't think we need to see them hussle factory P1s. That'd really anger the factories into leaving |

I wonder if any of these projects used the Judd 5.5 V10 that sounded so fantastic.
We know that the Ginetta used the V6 Mecachrome with exclusivity. The other options are the V6 Nissan, the Toyota 4l and AER, but I do not think anyone wants to use the last one. |

PS: Nice to see Perrinn sticking to the script and producing the render of their car in red, black and white. That way we all know it's an LMP1. |

A big old Chevy LS v8 (as per the Corvette GTE and Cadillac DPi) would be an aural delight, plus should be affordable and reliable for a privateer to run.

So is buying an LMP1 a guaranteed entry at Le Mans then? I suppose to stick within the expectations of the ACO you'd have to enter full season in WEC too, right? What's the limit then? If we have 10-12 new non-hybrid LMP1 do they all get an entry?

So do they all get an entry in the WEC? And at whose expense? The grid is pretty full already. Nice problem to have, if it comes to pass... Maybe they will have to provide some sort of assurances that they won't do Silverstone and Spa and then quietly disappear. |

It seems Perrinn has two orders for an LMP1 car.

Maybe, besides GTE-Am, P2 numbers will also go down at WEC/Le Mans due to the increase in GTE-Pro and P1 Privateer.

To be fair, this render is from last year so I think it's still 'old'. But yeah, the red theme is at play there too. Can't wait to find out who bought these!

Indeed. Not seeing any post in the Perrinn thread itself made me think this was overseen here. I should've known better, and read more than just the last page.
But if we get 6 to 8 P1 privateers next year... doesn't that make the P2 strangulation a success after all? And even with a (more) successful P1 field, will the cameras still focus on the P1s or will the GTEs get their fair share? Will the privateers survive for the length of this rules iteration? What's Rebellion gonna do in '18 when there's actually a P1 field (again)? Seems it's not gonna be dull. |

Yes, it seems like the P1 market place has suddenly seen a resurgence of sorts.
The important tidbit about the Perrinn news is that they ACTUALLY sold two cars, and it is not the same old "X team is looking at Y chassis for a potential P1 WEC program in Z years time." I really wonder what the team is. Maybe one of the GP2 teams that were rumoured to have been evaluating WEC LMP2 program? |

I'd be a little more cautious before calling it a resurgence. These cars have been sold, and Ginetta has sold some, etc, but theres every chance those cars won't make it to the grid. I hope I'm wrong, but with LMP1 especially it's best to assume the worst really.
