4 cylinder 1000s in 2003 WSBK

The FIM have announced at Silverstone that from next year 4 cylinder 1000cc bikes will be allowed to compete in the World Superbike Championship, with air restrictors to so they don't dominate. All the current Superbikes are legal next year as well.

Good move or bad move

It does bring WSBK into line with the BSB and AMA series. It will help. But they need to ride out the next two years or so and then try to get everyone back on board. They cannot compete with MotoGP head to head, especially at the moment.

It does bring it into line with the BSBK. the AMA still only allow 750cc 4 cylinders. The very beautiful Suzi Perry makes our day just that little bit brighter!

Too little too late- Kawasaki are withdrawing from WSB. Yamaha has already done so, Suzuki will probably do so too. Only Honda can afford all-out WSB and GP four-stroke efforts. WSB is finished.

According to what i have heard Suzuki have decided to stick with world superbikes for the future, and no being able to use the GSX-R1000 will help, plus according to Darrell Beattie Yamaha will be back with an R1, plus Honda will run the new Fireblade (they are apparently bringing the bike out a year early so they can race it, plus the 4 stroke GP team is developing it), along with Ducati, Aprilia, Foggy and i guess Benelli all doesn't look so bad.

Yamaha left because they didn't like the rules. The MotoGP costs just helped to justify it, so I'd expect Yamaha back. racer has mentioned Suzuki, which leaves Kawasaki and really, they were waiting on the rules I think. Why else would they hang around so long?

Although I have been predicting the end of WSB for a while, this is a positive move. Bike racing does need to keep production bike racing alive, and this is a smart move.

my word it is - we have all got used to the bike gp's and superbike, lets keep them both alive.... it cant be that hard - bring on the 1000cc 4's

I still say they should go back to the time a few years ago when there were different weights for the twins, triples and 4s. Haga and Walker showed that a 4-cylinder could be competitive in the BSB or SBK, and Aprilia showed that just having a twin will not win you the championship. No doubt that the Ducati is an excellent bike but they've been at it forever.

I remember watching a WSB race from 1996, and there were all different makes battling it out - Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki. What's happened since then???

The Ducati's got more hard core. The guys at Honda followed. Aprilia joined in and the others decided to take their balls and go home. Hence the 750's are not being developed.

The other thing I think is the move to the modern style of track, like that mickey-mouse piece of junk Oscersleben etc. Real tracks where 4s could compete (such as Donnington) seem to be increasingly dumped. Of course, that's a feature of all motorsport lately, but you know what I mean?

I agree with AMoffat. Ducati Honda and Aprilla just seemed to put more effort into their bikes than the others did, and it showed in results.

Thats the great thing about living in Cheshire, you get to talk to eurosport commentators and HRC chief mechanics!!hehehe.
Apparently Honda are at least 3 years ahead on the road bike front.

These regulations will put uk BSB 4 cyl riders in a good position as they will have had one years experience with the bikes expect a few to get top rides in WSB next year.
