snoz wanger should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Oulton Run/Walk for Charity 2012.

Hello Friends,
At the start of this season I had an idea that as a tribute to Henry Surtees we could all run/walk a lap of Oulton together {either full or Fosters} this would be done for a single suitable charity or for a charity of your own personal choice , I ran this by Nadine and she said that maybe i should see what response i got from my fellow marshals: {Obviously i would need to get permission from the Circuit first} .Due to the sad loss of Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli recently the idea has once again popped into my small brain!...."WINGS FOR LIFE" The spinal cord injuries charity would be my choice but id welcome any ideas you may have. This would NOT be a race and would be purely for fun and to help people less fortunate than ourselves.

Thanks.

Dave Tildsley.

Bit of a chicken & egg question.

In principle, I'm with you. But there are so many unanswerables. Will MSV allow it? Will they have time? When? If it's a midweek, far fewer people will be able to come.

So, yes, I'm keen but that might not be the case when all the questions are resolved.

a very practical and pragmatic look at it! yes sure that may be the case with msv but id be suprised if they couldnt facilitate this. despite having many track days throughout the week, there is always downtime no matter which circuit, this could happen after racing in the summer maybe. thats if its open to the public, if its restricted to marshals and officials only we do it all the time! itd be nice to have the public involved aswell, bit of a headache for the staff but therell be the numbers

circuit walks are a lovely thing to do, they are a good thing to do if youre camping over if you dont already bother and hey you see the uptake when spectators are allowed in the pit lane at high end events, just imagine how theyd react to a full blown "island" circuit walk!

croft i know of does this, a lot of unrestricted (if you wanted it to be) events open to the community. kind of because they have to. if theyre happy for people to walk anywhere with no circuit staff about surely palmer is with his posse!

I can't see it being to much of a problem. St Lukes Hospice do a similar event there; this year its 11th December. I will be there (apparently) as the girlfriend is taking part again.

Besides after last years I haven't complained once this year about being bored at any race meeting. Its for a good cause but the speed wasn't fantastic and there was very little overtaking!

They always used to do a bicycle thingie (plus a tug of war) on the Sunday morning of the Richard Seaman VSCC meeting. As there is still no racing on a Sunday AM - that could be a thought. And choose your meeting(s) well and you could have a good audience to cheer you on and maybe contribute to the coffers.

Sounds like a great idea even though at this point in time I'm not willing to commit to anything (just walking to the local shop wears me out), although I expect all this to change post January.

I originally thought of this because the F3 Teams did a run around the Circuit after the meeting last year for Henry Surtees, all dressed in "H" T-Shirts, I'm sure we can do this at some point in 2012 if we all get our heads together..

Serioulsy I 'm sure there will be 3 of us involved if it comes off, If possible at the end of a meeting over the summer ( Touring cars Sat) so there will be a lot of people at the circuit to cough up and also a group of marshals staying over to take part,

Yes I am old enough (apparently).

It can be the 'Marshals Iron Man' running the full circuit wearing overalls and carrying a fire bottle. Unfortunatly I am busy on that day so I won't be able to take part!!!

"marshals iron man". an hours worth of breaststrokes in gravel traps and pulling around ones sit on tool box laden to the brim could take care of how to do the swimming and cycling part!

There's always the lake, and don't forget the massive pike which could make it interesting!

F3/GT meeting might be good - Racing Saturday / Monday and give the crowds something to watch / join in on the Sunday?

why not give it a motor racing theme and call it the oulton 24hr but run in a relay format. if you can get enough voluteers they can take it in turns to do laps, you could even use an extinguisher as a baton. the meeting in question gives you a full day inbetween the circuit being in use.

do you think we'd be able to last 24 hours! thats the best idea imo on here, maybe a 2 or 4 hours, use a 500g extinguisher or a strop as a baton! now we're on the right track...
