1989 Wellington Street Race Documentary

I posted this link in the Group A M3 thread over in Motorsport History but it's especially relevant in this forum also.

Excellent documentary following Schnitzer's build-up and racing at the 89 Nissan Mobile 500 in Wellington.

Moffat: The Man and the Mountain is also pretty good.

It follow's Moffat's assault on the '88 Toohey's 1000.

This is a brilliant peice of history, love it as i was Flag Loop Comms for these events this brings back memories, in one of the races Brocky brock the drive shaft in his Beemer and we had to push it at the international terminal hairpin.

Hi everyone,
I hope you don't mind me jumping in here, but I'm really interested in finding some coverage of the 1990 Wellington Nissan Mobil 500, as I came over with a team running a Group 'N' Sierra Cosworth for that race and the race the next week at Pukekohe.
I keep looking on the internet but I don't seem to be able to find anything.

It was a fantastic trip, something that I will never forget, but I would be grateful if someone has some footage for me to watch.

I have added a few of the pictures I took at the Wellington race.
'Brocky' RIP.
'Our' Sierra.
Pirro and Cecotto.

Care to post it on YouTube?

I've been after this for ages. JB HiFi had this listed in their shop as being released on DVD in 2001, I put my name down for it.

I'm still waiting for a phone call

Can't find it anywhere!

For the record it was actually the Nissan Mobil 500 (Mobil being a brand of petrol)

What a great documentary, loved it. The Wellington races got so little coverage here. Does anyone have a link to a map of the circuit used in those days? It's difficult to imagine where they went.

That takes some working out. Am I right in thinking it used the roads on the way south and then constructed a track on the harbour front on the way back through what is now Te Papa Museum?

That would be correct. Besides the Quays and Cable St, the straight section by Frank Kitts Park is all thats left these days.

It was an awesome event one which I wish they would bring back as it was one of the greatest street races - up there with Monaco
