just statistically

Since Nissan came on board, Todd has been 4th of the 4 nissan driver twice, and 3rd (including this year currently) also twice)

Caruso and Rick have beaten him every year

Great outcome for the category, for everyone working at Kelly Racing and also for GT3 in Australia. Good on Nissan for trying separate themselves from the brown cardigan parade.

Nissan CEO vows to ‘finish what we started’

Quote:
We’ve agreed to undertake a process with global starting quite soon to develop what an alternate package would look like under Gen2 rules for 2019 onwards,” he said.
“We’ve got the package we think is thereabouts for the next two years, but does a better package exist within the Nissan world?
“We’re going to work with global on that and we’re encouraged about them wishing to be involved in developing that package.
At this point in time I can’t see that we’d be ready for 2018. So I think it’d be 2019 unless something drastically changed for next year.”

Is it possible that Todd Kelly will drive the GTR next year to keep his race miles up for the enduros (and a possible win with his brother) and open his seat up for Silvestro or Courtney?

Why not Mr Courtney for SuperGT, for AusGT and enduro duties?

I think Woody is sticking around for next season.

The budget is there, they are sinking time and effort into getting him up to speed.

Commercially and for the future of the team, if (and it is a big if), he can get those sort of drivers in the car, I think he'd be silly not to.

Me-thinks Mr Courtney would cost the team more money in salary, than he'd potentially generate in sponsorship.

Wood's on a 2-year deal, which allegedly sees his drive "comfortably funded".

My tip is that the driver line-up will remain unchaged there. The Kellys own the team, as if they wouldn't consider themselves as the first option.

I think you'll see a lot of drivers signing some very short-term contracts for next year. I don't think there'll be many decent seats at all. Perhaps one or two at BJR, although #21 would have to be well-funded to see it competitive.

#111 will probably be either Pither or Le Brocq. PRA have first dibs on the REC.

#2 and #22, who knows? DJ Walky is already hinting big things, but may just be a seat for Ms De Silvestro.

#3 and #222, will be 11th-hour deals as usual. Mr Russell may land here, if Mr Russell Snr and PF are happy. I'd be surprised if a big name lands here.

#4 will be a revolving door again. Again, no big name will want this seat.

#33 will most likely be Mr Golding, although if Volvo are definitely out, then it could be anyone with money.

What we must remember with a lot of these seats is that they will rely heavily upon drivers with budgets. There are less and less seats, year on year, that are paid drives. This could well be the end of the line for the likes of Pye, Bright, Tander, Percat, and Courtney.

I think Courtney would be the wrong choice for Nissan. I just don't feel that "driver talent" is the limiting factor at the moment for them.

You see it almost every weekend - there are 3 Nissans in the top ten, or none. Not sure what's needed exactly, though commitment from the factory will surely help going forward.

If Todd goes, bring a young gun in and keep the rest for continuity, a very underrated aspect of the team dynamic.
