tv3 coverage

i just read this on article on tv3s site sounds alot like tv1 just with v8 xtra and earlier race 3 showings

3 Motorsport - V8 Supercars

3 is the proud new home of Australasia’s hottest motorsport property, V8 Supercars.

What an exciting year we’re in for, with the inaugural streetrace from Hamilton becoming the 3rd round of the Supercar series, 14 rounds in total and an early start to the season with the Clipsal 500 streetrace from Adelaide on Feb 23/24.

We’ll have full coverage of all the rounds, as well as a new half-hour show called “V8 Xtra” supplied by our colleagues at Channel 7 Australia.

Once again the V8 Supercar series features a mixture of 3-race “sprint” events and endurance races like the iconic Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Here’s what you can expect in terms of coverage on 3.

We’ll give you more racing action than ever before, with an hour of coverage every Saturday of a race weekend, normally comprising half an hour of qualifying highlights plus V8 Xtra, getting behind the scenes with previews and reviews, driver profiles and team news.

On Sunday afternoons we’ll have full coverage of Races 1 & 2 in a sprint format, or Race 1 of an endurance event like the Clipsal. The final race will play in full at 10:30pm each Sunday night.

In Hamilton and at Bathurst our coverage will finish early evening, with no need for delayed broadcasts on Sunday night.

For those of you desperate to see the action as it happens, we expect to commence our Freeview channel in September where we’ll play each event Live and uninterrupted.

High Definition pictures will be available at around the same time.

3’s V8 Supercar coverage is proudly sponsored by Supercheap Auto.

I still don't understand why the freeview channel won't be available till September... stuff watching half the season delayed, it's bull****.

I agree - it is totally unacceptable to have to wait until Sept for Freeview coverage - if TVNZ could get it going my May last year (Just after Freeview was launched) then there is no excuse.

We need to take some action NOW. This is what each of you can do, so that the V8 Supercar fans in NZ don't keep getting shafted!

Can I ask that you all write a letter to TV3 and post it tomorrow so that it arrives in Monday or Tuesday. Their mailing address is
TV3 Auckland
3 Flower Street
Eden Terrace
Auckland
Private Bag 92624
Symonds Street
Auckland
Tel: (09) 377 9730
Att John McDonald, Head of Sport, TV3,
By the way, his mobile is 021 747 376 if you want to call to express your disapointment

Also write a letter to V8 Supercars Australia Pty Ltd
A: Level 1, 64 Marine Parade SOUTHPORT QLD Australia 4215
PO Box 607, SOUTHPORT BC QLD Australia 4215
Att. Tony Cochrane
T: +61 7 5630 0364
F: +61 7 5630 0365

You may want to fax this one so it gets there quickly. I don't care who has the rights as long as we get live coverage like we had. if enough people complain we will get action!

Please reply in here once you have sent off your message.

Hmmm.... isn't the program called V8Xtra for a reason - extra coverage NOT taking half an hour of qualifying coverage away? You could watch the show online via the seven site last year, I would rather do that than miss qualifying.

This coverage is definitely no better than what One offered last year, and of course One's freeview coverage was fantastic.

The freeview service started in May(?) last year, and TVNZ were on the ball right away, and 3's network as yet have none. 3 knew they had the supercar coverage in August last year, surely they could have got their act together and have one freeview channel up and running by now - why will it take until September??

Perhaps also contacting Supercheap about this might be another way since they are the major sponsor still? They might take action if enough fans bug them?

Thanks for the heads up. It might beat One, where you have to watch for 3 weeks to see all 3 NZV8 races, and by the time you see the 3rd one, you can't remember who won the first one. (Ok, if in doubt, pick Johnny Mac )

I think that we shouldn't knock it until we've tried it. Any extra content and earlier times has to be a positive for us usually unloved Kiwis.

When it comes on Freeview, it will be great, particularly if the races are all shown live. As Clint Brown would say, "Turn it up!!"

I think the point is that nearly every race (ie post May) last year was shown live on TVNZ Sport Extra, with qualifying as well. No ads - no cuts, all the action as it happened. I even remember a handful of emails to TVNZ also getting Bathurst qualifying thrown up live as well.

Until TV3 do something in September its back to the big old suckville for Kiwi fans. Even the Media Center Bigpond service appears to be gone - so for those of us who like things live its back to watching live timing again... This is a direct contradication of what Tony C harped on about in the press release with "better coverage for kiwis...".

For the "true fans" its back to the dark ages again...

Which is slightly better than Prime treat cricket fans putting delayed coverage on at midnight on a workday...

The Media Center V8 plugins working again...

Apparently they will be showing Channel 7 coverage - so at least thats one way of getting live coverage in NZ until TV3 sort their brown stuff out...

Might be rough quality but at least its live.

Its a plugin for Windows Media Center either MCE 2005 or Vista MCE.

If you have either version running it will allow you to get the live feeds of qualify and the races streamed over the web. Video quality is a bit better than youtube.

Last year you got full qualifying coverage, but only in car camera's for the races with full commentary.

This year they will apparently be using full Channel 7 coverage - I'll know for sure in about 25 minutes...

It's nothing compared to Freeview - but its better than nothing!
