Over the last 54 years, the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) has been proudly providing Access to Motorsport for Competitors, Officials and Spectators predominantly at one of the best known circuits around the world; the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

In May (20-21) and August (19-20) 2006, PIARC will be promoting two rounds of the newly formed CAMS National Racing Championship series at the seaside Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit that will feature a wide range of categories which offer huge variety to the spectator.

In June (10-11) PIARC will also be promoting round two the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships (VSCRC) at the seaside Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and in a special November event (25-26), PIARC will also be promoting the traditional end of year RDA Rotors & EBC Brakes Island Magic which will also be the final round of the VSCRC (round six) for 2006.

PIARC will be offering all spectators the best value for money ticket in the country, available only online at www.piarc.com.au (from Wednesday 10th May) and it will include; entry for both Saturday and Sunday for all four events with access to the paddock and pits, showcasing over 8 full days of motor racing action, for 30 categories with more than 90 races from all four weekends combined.

MAY 20-21 – CAMS NATIONAL RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS
On May 20-21 PIARC will be promoting the first of the two CAMS National Racing Championship series at the seaside Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit which will feature these exciting categories:

Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship
Speed Energy Drink Australian GT Championship
Ebanc Trade Commodore Cup National Series
SXprojects Australian Superkart Championships
Kerrick Australian Sports Sedan Series
Citywide/Challenge Recruitment Formula Vees

The fastest open wheelers in the country, the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship return to Phillip Island with Ben Clucas (UK) comfortably leading the 2006 Championship after two rounds but expect to see Michael Trimble, Tim Macrow and Leanne Tander working to change that.

With three straight rounds in NSW, the Speed Energy Drink Australian GT Championship will make a trip south for the fourth round of their 2006 Championship with (pre Oran Park final results) Championship leader Greg Crick leading 2005 Champion Bryce Washington with James Koundouris in third place. If its speed you’re after then this category has it in abundance.

With a new sponsor the Ebanc Trade Commodore Cup National Series has always provided great racing at Phillip Island and 2006 will not disappoint. SXprojects have joined the SXprojects Australian Superkart Championships as their naming rights sponsor and with over 40 entries already confirmed, the racing will be high speed, close and electrifying. Don’t miss it!

Gone is the TranZam name but the Kerrick Australian Sports Sedan Series will showcase the fastest and wildest sport sedan built in Australia and overseas. Current category lap record holder Tony Ricciardello will again travel from the west coast to show the pundits that he has the talent and skill to rival all his competitors.

Making their debut with the CAMS National Racing Championship series is the Citywide/Challenge Recruitment Formula Vees with drafting or slip streaming the order of the weekend. Always close at Phillip Island as they round the final bend onto the straight with times of 0.04 often separating first and fourth.

Entry for May 20-21 includes paddock and pit entry for both Saturday and Sunday:

Well consider that had the Superkarts had 9 more entries they would have accounted for the whole AMRS meeting. Certainly depressing.

For Formula Vee expect Ryan Simpson and David Frith to be the ones to watch to take out the round.

Commodore Cup looks to be a good battle up the front with Christian D'Agostin, Danny Richert, David Gittus and Marcus Zukanovic.

Superkarts: Rod Prickett is really the only name that I know is a front runner.

Sports Sedans could go a few ways, Dean Randle looks pretty good, but it Tony wont be far away.

And for F3 - Clucas,Trimble and Macrow.

Wonder what the weather is going to do.

Superkarts - Sam Zavaglia is another one to watch (moving up from 125gearbox with a Brian Stockman prepared kart) Hopegfully it will be a close race at the front with the incredibly quick 250cc Internationals (imagine a formula vee race closeness at V8 lap times...)

What a fantastic weekend of racing, we had both spills and thrills in what was an extremely captivating meeting.

From throwing helmets at each other to yelling through windows showing that drivers in all categories were all fired up ready to win, or to at least finish.

Dean Randle was the helmet thrower reaching a gold medal distance of about 10m. Exiting Honda Hairpin Daniel Tamasi had gotten sideways and onto the kerbing with Dean Randle the inside, with Hossack inside Randle - 3 wide. Tamasi got the car straight momentarily, but in the greasy conditions booted the power on and went extremely sideways straight into the left rear wheel of Randle. A series of roll overs followed as Randle was picteched onto the infield and bounced (rolled) over the embarkment for a total of 3 turns. None of the body was left to be seen, so unfortunately for sponsors they lost their time in the limelight.

After the incident Randle jumped out, abused and then threw his helmet at Tamasi who was really only walking over to see if Randle was alright.

This occured on the first lap of the final race which was a rolling start - and due to time, they never restarted the race.

And then was carried off on a stretcher into an ambulance. Must have injured his shoulder throwing his helmet.

Everyone involved in a roll over is carried off by an ambulance for precautionary checks, but funnily enough he was complaining of shoulder soreness. I must add it was a heck of a throw - although he took his helmet off rather quickly.....

And for those that didn't see the Commodore Cup races Sunday - they were peerlers, absolutely mind numbing to watch. Even though the top 3 in the second race were rather spaced out with nothing much happening, the battle for fourth was raging and it was anyones pick. In that race Fontaine and Nick Parker started from the rear of the field, one due to a hose failure, and one due to a fire. But by the time they had reached turn 1 - Parker went from 19to 9th and churned up some grass along the way.

You really have too watch Speedweek for those races, it would take too long to describe all the entertaining moments.

Another category that was exciting was Formula 3 where at stages they had 5 cars within a second going round turn 1. It was magnificent to watch.

One interesting incident (well it wasnt an incident) that turned up was when Michael Trimble continuelly moved towards the pit wall on the last lap - with Clucas right beside him. They would have been 10cm away from touching at max as Trimble tried to (well it looked like he tried to) out-balls Clucas. But CLucas won by something like .006 in what was a fantastic ending, and what made it an even bigger win for Clucas was that he had received a drive thru earlier in the race.
