Yes weird seeing GP3 higher than Super Formula. That's just bizarre

Interesting that a Supercar pilot can win the series 3 years in a row & still not be eligible...

But would you expect them to go Supercars to F1 directly? Seems like a HUGE change in everything there. I'd say winning three on the trot and a decent season in F2/3/etc is a good showing but Supercars to F1 is a stretch. And I enjoy them and would say the same for any GT or tintop series. And having the SF driver earn 2/3 of Formula E is crazy, are there any SF drivers winning who are really that bad a pilot? I understand it behind F2, the ban on champs returning there is good on paper and terrible in reality so you earn fewer points racing after you're a champ to stay sharp. That's bizzare

Yes, and I disagree with that. F1 drivers should be experienced and successful in junior formula racing.

I think that F1 should forbid under-21 drivers.

There has only been one pilot eligible down here, Jamie Whincup, and he started in Formula Ford..

It is just hard to see the point of the SuperLicence system if you overcome almost impossible odds to win what you need and still miss...

Sorry GTRMagic, but there is only one guy down there and he is much better suited to F1 than JW, and really is sad to see him not make it to F1. A real talent that ran out of money/oppotunity and had to head back home to NZ. Richie Stanaway. If you've followed his career so far, which included Formula Renault 3.5, GP3 and GP2, you'd see that Stanaway is a much better talent for F1 than Whincup is/was. A shame to not see Stanaway make it all the way to F1.

That wasn't the eligibility criteria though. 3 Supercar titles in 3 years got Mr Whincup to 39 points. And despite the best of intentions, he still wouldn't qualify even if he wanted to!

Max wouldn't and there was a fuss kicked up when he joined so we now have these rules. Now there is a fuss because we have them.

Max just proves that it is talent that is important and the stupid points system is a total waste of everyone's time, in my book.

I think that you have to separate the current Max with the one who stRted his first F1 weekend.

Was Max really ready, sure he is talented, but was he really ready?

I'd say no, he was missing some of the "etiquette" of racing that can only come from experience gained climbing up through the classes. For me he was allowed to jump too many, and the fact that the FIA decided to review the superlicence procedures was an admission that it shouldn't have happened, and needed to make sure that it couldn't happen again.

Max is the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 champion.

In my book that qualifies him on any level.

No, he was the 2014 FIA Formula 3 champion.

Driving a 200hp car is very different from driving a 700hp car.

question then...are superlicence points only there just to determine eligibility for F1?

rather, if a driver wants to move from F3 to say NASCAR nothing prevents them (other then being able to find/afford a ride) from changing series...so why does F1 deserve the special treatment?
