VdeV type cars

is it me or are these LMP3/VdeV 2 litre sportscars the privateer class of the future? the type of class the could explode all over the world? all they need is 1 or 2 big races (12 or 24 hour races etc)

VdeV rules can be found on vdev.fr
class CN is article 259 on http://www.fia.com/sport/Regulations/appjregs.html
but VdeV rules differ a little bit from class CN.

Like the Masters for F3? Good idea, and I think they should do the same for GT3...
Question would be which track to go... France as the motherland of VdeV seems quite convenient, but they have already Le Mans. Maybe something at the end of the season in Spain or Portugal .

there is a vdev uk, scc in austria/germany, cip in italy, many many more
the only missing thing is ONE set of rules for everybody. But we will only get this if everybody uses the FIA 259 technical regulations. VdeV uses some "special rules" too and thats bad from my point of view

VdeV-type rules seem to be the way of the future. FIA CN is slightly different because the class usually runs in the European Hillclimb Championship, but while the CNs in VdeV are all 2-litre cars, the Hillclimb cars are still 3-litre. However, the only place 3-litre cars run now outside hillclimbing is in the Italian Prototype Series (and maybe Interserie?). Even Britsports have allowed the 3-litre to run as Invitationals only.

Even with the full grids running in the VdeV, I believe this would work better if the cars were reserved for National Championships, with a big final at the end of the season. The VdeV races have one problem though, they're usually very long, around six hours. I think that's too much for an amateur drivers series.

No, the race-length is okay as the teams get quite a bang for their buck and/or can add a third paying driver. The grids are full so no need to change anything.

Regardless of what the exact letter of the regulations are, the key point that nobody has yet made that is probably holding this back is universal acceptance of a single rule set across all the countries participating. Historically politics and local influences have had far more to do with that.

At the moment the FIA's GT3 rules are coming close to this. Another that is working is the ACO's regulations, adopted in LMES, ALMS and the JLMS (Japan) but again, the ALMS have adopted its own parity outside the ACO's precise regulations that have upset Audi/Aston Martin.

An LMP3 European or world championship would be great but on the national level there'll always be some kind of rule bending to suit a local manufacturer or a local racer who has money to race but not quite enough to adopt to worldwide rules.

What is the difference between CN, C3, CN2 and any of the other related classes?

I disagree a worldwide LMP3 could work well but needs firm leadership.

In Europe twin seaters are favoured, in the US centre seaters (IMSA Lites C/D Sports) rule the roost, Japan also favours centre seaters. But its coming... of that I'm sure.

If you aint read it already see here

http://www.racecar-engineering.com/i...ftheFuture.pdf

I think sam will be on here later to explain all the series and variants

Didn't mean to sound negative, I do think it would be excellent but I was just trying to be a little realistic and consider all of the influential factors
