Wayne Kerr should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Why do they call it "Improved Production"?

Why not "The Mazda Series"

Good question scoop...

Let's see, in NSW the following cars compete:

* Mazdas of all sorts (RX-2,3,7 etc)
* Datsuns... 1200, 1600, Stanza, of turbo and non turbo variety
* Nissan Gazelle Turbo
* Holden Commodores from VB to VS, with a VX in the build atm
* Toranas, of LJ and LH/LX
* Monaro HT
* Falcons from XY to EB
* Volvo 740 Turbo (don't laugh, it's a rocket)
* Audi Quattro Turbo
* Subaru WRX's
* Honda Civics
* Gemini's
* Ford Escorts of all ages
* Toyota Corona
* Toyota Celica
* Toyota Sprinter
* Triumph Dolomite
* Mini Cooper

Hmmm, and that's just off hand...
By the way in the last month or so Ray Hislop in his EB Falcon (Vic) and Gavin Fazakerley in the WRX (NSW) have taken out the trophy race in State Championship Rounds...
I'd be the first to admit that Mazda's are popular (hey, they are reasonable cheap and competitive so why wouldn't people race them ??)
but it's far from "The Mazda Series" as you put it...

At least you are appropriately named...

Cheers,
Paul...

The RX-7 is popular because it is the easiest and cheapest car to turn into a race winner, but certainly not the only one.

One of the greatest features of the class is the tremendous variety and the amazing racing caused by having cars with such variations in performance, potentially putting in similar lap times. David and Goliath battles are great fun for all.

Entries have closed and I believe they have 82 entries. Awesome, close to a record I think. Should be very good!

Many non RX7's have won many state rounds this year in both NSW and VIC, so the "old" concept that only RX7's can win in IP has gone well out the window.

By the way I run an RX7! And was beaton at the last round by a good old V8 VH (A weapon of a car driven by a great bloke).

Those Whimpy Victorians are scared of racing interstate, apparently

Some cars that were entered have suffered mechanical failures recently, (havent they Fat Boy?) and wont be running, unfortunately.

Some other entrants are suffering from Chronic Micro Cardia and are running with their tales between their knees. Very dissapointing.

Still 80 + cars, I cant wait

You take it to them Cameron on behalf of Victoria!

You and Ken work as a team at the front of the pack and you can sort them out for sure...

Not quite Doggo... Let's just say one of our fellow NSW competitors figured he needed my motor and 'box more than i do and made me an offer i couldn't refuse...

The "Boppa-mobile" needs a Modena and some more horsepower...

Cheers,
Paul...:

I'm sure he will Kelvin...

I'm looking at Pfitzner (not sure if i spelt that right ??) 'box as well, although opinion at the moment seems to be that the Modena is a slightly better product...

Fatboy,

I will be running a rohan box for the first time a little later this afternoon out at Calder.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Twister,

We'll certainly be giving it a crack.

We have a test day today out at Calder, and then again on Friday out at Winton.

Changed a few things, and hopefully have finally got rid of that terrible understeer.

Winton will be a good test of our understeer.

I am glad to hear that the rumours of Ken not attending are incorrect.

It is a better indication of what Victorian Motor Sport has to offer, than just us in the overs and Lauren Gray in the Unders.

I'll let you all know how we go.

Sounds fantastic, have fun today at Calder.

My opionion (bias I guess), is look at both boxes carefully both from the extra quality and performance of the Modena and of course the support! And also who is doing well etc in IP with Rohan's vs others, I think it is pretty clear?

I have now been running a Modena/Rohan gearbox for 2 years and love it. No problems at all, where lets say I have seen some of the competition with gears all over several tracks! (Not once but several times!)

Rohan races and knows what is required do any of the other 'designers' actually race, I don't think so.....

Look carefully at what you get for your money, and remember you need the on-going race support over many years!

Cam, go for it. Let us know how you go today and Friday.

Results of the Test:

-> We officially have a dead front shock. We only had them checked just last month. Oh well!

-> The gearbox had an oil leak.

-> We were bedding in new front brake pads.

-> We were trialling a new front bar.

I was only trundling around getting used to the new gearbox, and also getting used to all the other changes.

My thoughts on the gearbox:

What an awesome bit of kit!

It took me 6 laps to get used to, and my arm is feeling a little tired, from the effort required. However it is going to make life so much easier.

I was amazed at how much it changed the whole feel of the car.

I definitely recommend it!

Catchya

I used to race club cars and stopped due to the fact I was sick of racing in a class where the odds are stacked firmly in the favour of anyone racing a Mazda Rotary. No Rotary no win. So I agree with that comment on Mazda series.

Have you looked at the results in the last 12 months with the number of non RX7's winning?
If not I suggest you do.
The 2 leading cars in Vic Championship this year are not RX7's! 1 is a Commodore the other a XU1 Torana.

Next weekend one of the outright fav's is Ray Hislop from Tassi with a Falcon, if Tony F from Vic was there in his Commodore he would also be a chance just to name a couple?

The most recent NSW State Championship round was won by a WRX, and no it wasnt raining

A Mazda is a very popular car to race in the series and therefore by weight of numbers many races have been won by such a machine.

It could be said that it is only due to a disqualification at Oran Park that the NSW Championship points are not being led by a Datsun 1600!

Read the 2 posts above by Twister and Doggo...
Then tell us honestly when was the last time you actually went to an Improved Production race meet ??

Maybe it was like that when you were racing, but times are changing. I get really ****ed off with negative comments like that because anyone who has gone to one our State rounds this year would know how good and close the racing has been - and it hasn't been Mazda dominated...

Cheers,
Paul...

At the last round at Wakefield park there were 6 mazda rotaries out of a 31 car grid. The round before there were 17 out of 53 cars. Hardly a grid dominated by mazdas.
