Any news on the Internationals?
I havent been following things that closely but has anyone heard any news about the International drivers for Sandown and bathurst?
someone mentioned in another thread that there may be a problem with the licenses ? is this still being debated or has it been sorted out ? and why is there a problem at all ? If someone like Jan Magnussen who has been brittish F3 champ , a Formula One driver and currently a very handy sports car driver isnt allowed to race becaus ehe doesnt qualify for a CAMS license then there is serious problems with our system I would think. so has any decisons been made on this ? and what are the likely outcomes ? will we the fans be poorer because some of the worlds best drivers are not allowed to tackle bathurst ? and why hasnt this been a problem in the past ? (that I know of anyway) |

I doubt whjether the promotors will be happy with 6 or 7 cars not making the grid.
Apparently, D.Brabham has been given special dispensation from CAMS, Minassian and Cleland will be OK as they don't compete frequently these days. The only stumbling block seems to be Magnussen, who currently leads the Danish Touring car Cahmpionship and can't afford to abandon his national licence to get a CAMS one ... McFayden is on stand-by for the Dynamic crew. |

ok sounds almost good , but why does Magnussen have to surrender his Dannish Licence ???
why cant he just apply for a CAM<S one do the paperwork and be granted one ?? are you only allowed to hold one licence only ??? this man has a Formula One superlicence , surely that should say he is capable of driving ?? or is it the fact that is a licence for Dannish touring cars ??? Im really lost on this one !!!! |

It should be as easy as him applying for the CAMS licence and getting it, but CAMS as always have to be difficult.

The problem as i see it though is Magnussen doesn't want to hand in his international licence to get a CAMS licence, i don't know how they're going to get around it but i hope they find a solution to allow Magnussen in the race.

you have got to be kidding, since when do you have to hand in your international licence to get a CAMS one? wake up to yourselves CAMS / Avesco / whoever is responsible. what a joke. so if shui or Webber come out here do they ahve to hand in their super licences as well?

This situation is a joke but then everything that either CAMS or AVESCO do is.

To be fair this time, CAMS and Avesco are totally independant. CAMS controll licencing issues, it has squat to do with Avesco. Avesco would be pushing hard to help get this sorted out as Magnussen`s name is quite big on the International scene and International recognition is what Avesco are after. Don`t think though that I will support Avesco on much else, because it won`t happen.

Hmmmm, and as a shareholder in AVESCO, CAMS are actually doing themselves an injustice!

If Magnussen misses Sandown, will Dynamik bother with him at Bathurst?

If he misses Sandown, everyone at CAMS needs to face a public stoning. What an absolute disgrace and embaressement this would be for all Australians.

Will I see you chucking rocks at CAMS HQ this weekend??
It is a revenue earner for CAMS, and caused by the organising body (CAMS, IMG, AVESCO, TEGA) not classifying the Sandown race an international event.... to save $$ most probably |

Will Magnussen still get a ride at Bathurst? I would think that half the reason for running him at Sandown was to get seat time so he knows the car before going to the Mountain.

Probably all depend on how Wakefield goes this weekend. Similiar situation to Lowdnes/Rydell in 1994. Of course Rydell had had no testing that time, whereas Magnussen at least knows his way around the car.

A long way to come for Magnussen to end up with no drive.
