Where has the #4 SBR AU from last year ended up?
AFAIK, the car Winterbottom drove to the Konica Championship was the #9 Caltex car of Besnard was it not? Last edited by Mattracer; 22 Aug 2003 at 09:58. |

The #4 Pirtek Sandown-winning car is in the hands of Todd Wanless in Konica this year. The Caltex Qld500-winning car is in the hands of Kevin Mundy in Konica this year. Both cars are being prepared by Paul Cruickshank with engines still under the care of SBR.
Mark Winterbottom is driving the brand new car built after Wayne Gardner wrote off the other new one SBR built to replace the Qld500 winner after Mundy bought it. |

One thing that doesn't seem to have been hit on here is the Bowe factor. DJR have not been trully competative the way the used too since John Bowe left the team. Bowes testing abilities are highly rated. In Steven and Max they don't have that experiance.

I agree that there were 2 fundamental changes at DJR that have reduced its technical base. The loss of the brothers Stone, and indeed the loss of John Bowe.
Neither is probable to return to the team, so the infrastructure inside the DJR business, you would have thought, would have been built up in the meantime to replace these 2 major technical bases. Admittedly the Stones left at the end of 1995, and JB left at the end of 1998. The AU started in 1999, finished in 2002 a beaten machine in DJR's hands, despite some flashed of brilliance. Its a very sad downward trend of an icon.. and it seems the vultures are circling |

Very sad. It is interesting that almost everyone wants to see DJR back on the pace, they don;t lack for punter support, just speed on the track.

It will be interesting to see how Taurnac and Johnson get along. Both are men who believe that there way is the only way. Tarunac a man who went toe to toe with Bernie Eccelston and was Jack's right hand man when Australia ruled Formula One

DJR is a cornerstone team in the sport, along with CPR, HRT and FTR/FPR/GSR. They will be back but not as we now know them, I would think.

DJR maybe limp and coming apart at the seams but they do have a very large fan base. Even if the current drivers don't have fans the Team Boss does. I for One have been a Dick support for years back in the dark days of the only driver flying the Flag. My other 2 fav drivers are both ex 18 men. I find it hard to change to another team but at the moment I have to settle for just going for any Ford. So Marcos keep kicking Butt and lets have Triple for the year Sandown, Bathurst and the championship Ford 2003. 100years. Along with 100 years test rugby For the Mighty All Blacks also looking for 3 this year. 2 down 1 to go.

Sometimes people with blinkers just dont see the train.
You can run around at back but three things make a race team, money+engineer+driver=getgo. Me thinks something missing. |

Welcome to the forum DJRno1, could I suggest the next time you log on you bring a sense of humour along as well.
The title of the thread was light hearted, and as the author I was hoping to give everyone a laugh. No disrespect to Dick intended, but they obviously have a few problems, are not performing, and as such could be described as " limp " IMO. I'm amazed they have fallen into this hole, and it is a damm shame as for years Dick and his team were the only Fords able to take it to the Holdens. I was a big fan and would love to see them at the pointy end again. The bottom line for me though is that a FORD wins, regardless whose team they belong to. |

G'day djrno1. You seem to have a strong view on DJs race team.
Unfortunately in this game, you are only as good as your last race. In DJRs case, they aren't very good – and that's in the main game and the Konica show. I grew up as a DJ fan myself, but the team are in a real hole at the moment. Here's hoping they get their act together ... |

Jr is 15th while Wilson is 17th on total points, although from the coverage the only time you get to see the cars is when one of them crashes or blows up.
Speaking of holes, anyone else think DJR should put their stock of AU's in a hole like on the Holden One Tonner ads and bury them? |

I have to agree with you GTR. I was at Stapylton a few months ago and i was amazed that they had 3 AU falcons in the workshop, and I agree about burying them.

I wonder if we might see Shell take a lesser involvement after the last 2 years. Remember they did that with the Super Series a few years ago.
Maybe take a step back and on-sell some of the prime space on the DJR cars? |

Maybe Coles will hop on board and give Shell 4c off every dollar they spend.

The Shell-SuperCheap DJR Falcons with Max Wilson and Bob Thorn aboard... does that sounds like a winning combination?

Did it do many laps before requiring a new engine or panel work?

If you go back a few years there would never be a thread like this anywhere. As i recall DJR was the all conquering knight in the battle with the red dragon...It is typical of us as unknowing critical fans to kick them now they are down....I would like to see the team reinvigerated with new ideas and management, then sit back and see what happens. Maybe GTR could visit and off load a few more pearls of wisdom in this garage, after all Jones did have their best meeting of the year after his visit. GO DJR.
