storyline should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Is this the fastest lap recorded in Australia?

Just updating some stats and came across this from a Hidden Valley meeting last weekend (http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...006.HIDV.R08):

Quote:
7 23 Bob O'Brien B.O'Brien/B.Heydon HQ Holden 3300 HQ 56 02:03:07.2967 47 0:14.8218R
The previous lap record was a 1 min 24.0948

Not sure what car this guy was in:
Quote:
3 71 Graeme Robson Graeme Robson (NT) 3 4:40.3440 1 1:01.4370*
but it is 7-8 seconds quicker than the V8 lap records.

I know the track can be fast - but a 14 second lap! That HQ needs to be brought down to NSW and VIC tracks!

And the average lap speed was 697kph.

Maybe it was one of those limited production rotary-powered HQs. We all know how superior rotary engines are.

As for

Quote:
3 71 Graeme Robson Graeme Robson (NT) 3 4:40.3440 1 1:01.4370*
It says it was a Mazda. The doubled capacity listed just about matches a 12A.

14 second lap? Not bad, but not the quickest.
The Sprintcar lap record at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool is 10.47 secs.

(Long time listener, first time caller.)

I think you seriously under estimate the performance of the mighty HQs, Mr Obvious. These things are serious weapons. Well may we say "Three on the tree and a 202 under the hood", but nothing will save lap records in general.

Scott - no not a typo - electronic timing is used at that track. The worry is that it happens quite regularly up there - sub 30 second lap times being allocated which means the results become suspect so proper stats for teh track can't be kept.

For example - have a look at the Lap Record quoted on this result:
http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re.../2004.HIDV.R13 - now THAT is one serious Gemini (I hear that they won't allow the car to compete in Queensland in the Gemini Series there).

And only just noticed - in this result http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re.../2006.HIDV.R08 - check the lap record for the HQ category - time set by a Mazda RX7!

Man - they do things strangely in the Land of the Darwin Stubby!

It was obviously manual timing, or someone was playing with the transmitters.

Or it could be the car in question didn't have a dorian and had to be manually timed.

No the software used at all tracks is supposed to trap these 'superfast' lap times so they never see the light of day.

From a statisical viewpoint though it leaves all of HV's result doubtfull that they even let these errors get through (they did fix it so maybe someone up there reads ten-tenths?) but they still have problems with their lap records and other events where sub 50 second laps have been recorded (their HQ lap record, for example, is 3 seconds SLOWER than the time they were crediting to the ctegory4 years ago - plus the fact the H! record is now held y a Mazda rotary!)

The erroneous laptimes quoted are indeed manually timed, in these cases in classes that are not forced to use dorian transmitters for lapscoring. For one reason or another the database hasn't had these times yet corrected.

Which begs the question - if they are being manually timed then they cannot possible be accurately timing them to the 4th decimal! But, when all is said and done, the cars were a category that is supposed to be running dorians (HQ's) and they should never have gotten issued in the first place.

The lap records still need to be looked at though - they are all over the place (previous recorded records have gone missing, others changed, others set by vehicles not even in the class).
