There was a link to the auction earlier in this thread. AFAIK all the RS1800 road cars were white. Obviously they don't give names of vendors but no cars described as Zakspeeds.....
Several people having clear outs at the moment- it's that time of year! |

Yes XOO AMR car is a real one alright. Think it gets mentioned in the book towards the end when return to racing is discussed.
One car was rescued from Sweden in the early noughties, and Alan knew of another surviving car which I think he told me was this one but my memrory is from a conversation at Mallory in 2003 so i may be waay off beam!! Whatever the case he, or rather his no 1 engineer knew (the late Jim?) where they were. |

Its X00348F thats for sale
The BTCC ran to Group 5 regulations for that year allowing XOO 349F and XOO 348F to use the Cosworth built FVA injected F2 engine producing 210BHP. XOO 348F is credited with winning the motor show 200 for that season, being driven by Peter Arundell, Jackie Oliver and possibly Roger Clark at Brands Hatch. During the 80's XOO 348F was used amongst other things for rally cross with notable success and since then has been totally rebuilt back to 1968 group 5 BTCC specification to a very high standard, with group 5 front and rear suspension, a fresh George Wadsworth built injected FVA engine, magnesium bell housing and limited slip differential and is described as being in very good condition and supplied with a UK V5 registration document. XOO 348F was requested to attend the Goodwood revival 2011 to celebrate 100 years of Ford UK and is eligible for a whole host of historic events throughout Europe. All in all this ex-works Alan Mann Escort is a cut above all others and is probably the only Alan Mann Escort to be offered for sale in the foreseeable future. Estimate: £60,000 - £70,000 |

We know all that Jonathan! The question Zeff was asking rather mischievously was whether the car was the original and genuine. It is not unheard of for historic cars and identities to be lost then suddenly be found again....

These cars were modified on a weekly basis, constantly striving for improved performance. Someone tell me the "original" spec. for the suspension. Also, would it be eligible for any current series? |

I knew what he was asking and was rather badly playing a tad 'simple' to his question and using the COYs advert pitch! But this opens up a very large can of worms...... how many real cars are actually real?? reshells, damage parts, worn parts etc etc I know my NSU is 3/4 real..... 3/4 due to is needing 2 rear quarter panels!!!! but they were hand beaten to match the original flared arches took the beaters 1 1/2 weeks per quarter panel. I guess its all relative..... and for me real fake reproduction, recreation, its all the same a good fake is as good as a real one! sure many will disagree. how many broadspeed, alan mann zakspeed cars documents are sat in a file doing nothing???? if someone want to restore recreate rebuild or copy cars on grids and racing is the main thing surely? My Escort is a privateer zakspeed car needing restoration it currently look roughly like a zak car and has zak ID I honestly cant prove its it REAL or a good or bad fake.... as the history isnt there it was bought from a german farmer who spoke very little english the car covered in chicken sh!t with cows rubbing up against it, when the time comes ill restore the car to a tasteful privateer liveried car Ill get great pleasure from restoring it and ill race/drive it like its stollen. Ill step down off the soap box now..... Last edited by Hunter1300; 11 Jan 2013 at 20:35. |

To get this thread back on topic - Autosport International rather than Dagenham Dustbins. What was it like? Anyone got a serious appraisal? Have I missed the best business opportunity since Mr McDonald said "fancy a burger anyone"? Or would a stand have resembled Jessops in a Christmas rush? Was there any substance behind the hype and glitz, or was it the same old stuff given a fresh coat of paint and called new?
Facts/opinions/gossip/downright slander most appreciated! |

The trailer stands appeared to be busy, in fact the new Brian James and PRG offers look very good. There was a product that would be good for us amateurs, a datalogger that links in with a Go PRO thereby allowing the driver to analyse performance down to the second. Of the Clubs, the HSCC majored on its new Touring Cars Series, of the others the BRSCC had a stand with modern racers, but I don't recall any stand out displays from the clubs. AWS had its stand and seemed to be doing good, if not brisk, business and of course GPR and DT were there. Overall, it felt a little flat. |

I know I have said this before but in the 70's I was offered this car for the princley sum of £1000 sadly I declined the offer. I was in the motortrade and was offered this by a dealer mate who traded from Borehamwood, he knew I was into HotRod racing and thought I may like it for that, just as well it was not elligible for short circuit racing as I would have wrecked it! |
