2013 Historic Racing- looking forward

Most of the various club and series organiser calendars are sorted now. So who is doing what this season? "Same ole same ole" or venturing forth to new challenges, new cars, new series, new circuits..........

new engine in the Midget so back to Europe for at least a couple of weekends with FISC; plus some of Claire's endurance with whatever's running best at the time; and maybe Barry's hour at Spa. (clubs please note that none of that requires membership or registration fees)

That'll be Arthur's "Goodwood Special" I take it? It gets worse my friend...son's kart racing really eats into your own racing budget in terms of both finance and time!

I've been offered a drive in a Senior TKM at Clay Pigeon, and we were contemplating launching Alex's racing career at MG Live sharing one of the race school's ZRs, but David's point about memberships hits home. The 924 project is on hold so I doubt we'll make the 360 but Alex does have a hankering for the rumoured Donington event in it - he just needs to go and earn enough money to pay for his ARDS test

Not much Historic stuff on the horizon, especially now the Silverstone Classic has written itself out of the business plan.

Hmmm... Judging by the above posts, it's all sounding a bit doom & gloom so far then?

Agree with the sentiments on membership/registration fees - I suspect, with the economic climate showing little inclination for growth, that many of us may be tempted to just pick and choose a few events here and there as and when we can afford it. But, with these fees, who is going to want to pay to register for a given series if they may only do one or two rounds?

For me, the immediate future isn't bright or orange either! The TR is still languishing in a sorry state after the big off at Mallory last year - and no sign of a decent shell yet to rebuild it. So I thought I might resurresct the E21 BMW and do a few rounds in that to keep my hand in - but that would need a certain amount of work to get it up to scratch, and I haven't started on that either.

Gonna have to get stuck in soon, or it'll be a year on the sidelines - but the worry for me then is that there's a risk of losing the impetus and I may never make it back! God, what a thought: I'm sad enough as it is - I dread to think how sad I'd be if I didn't go racing!

As the E was shaping up well in late outings last year, plan is to do as many Guards rounds with Special Guest Driver as time & budget will allow , and fit in some outings in the S wherever I can.

The Anglebox needs a rebuild (engine and suspension) before I even think about taking it out and since I returned from the sun the phone won't stop ringing with work (obviously I'm too cheap !) so I've no time to look at it.
Not sure what else I'm going to do this year as Ferrari /Williams and Red Bull seem to have lost my email address and phone number !

PS I used to clean their toilets !!!

Dave Thompson (DaveGT6) and I shall be out in a variety of our stuff; we'll do some HSCC Guards in the TVR Grantura, and a bit of CSCC Swinging Sixties in the TVR Tuscan. Also planning on doing at least 4 HSCC Historic Touring Car rounds in the fabulously stylish (Mr Bell) Falcon. I am also having my mobile gin palace partially repainted so it won't look quite so pikey in the HSCC paddock...even if it is dwarfed by Mr Bell's behemoth.

350D and 500D, booked for Revival, and will probably do the MSCC Donington again, so if you want your picture took do let me know.

Oh! I shall be driving my 1998 Vauxhall Astra as usual.

I have a few jobs on the 20 year old list to do. Decorate house, do patio, build new garage. Various jobs on the road cars, various jobs on the MG, various jobs on the Jaguar. So I'll be out about April or May, just not sure which year they'll fall in.

The PRS is still in bits and looks like it's going to stay that way (It has been like it for about 10 years) so, like Bauble, I'll probably be confined to taking a few snaps this year.

takes a proper truck to dwarf your RV!

Not sure if the rig will be at any HSCC rounds this season, so you may not have to park in it's shadow.

Glad the Falcon is stylish again! I understand there should be more Guards races with grids split, which I'm sure everyone will appreciate.

Currently not working but looking at a new racing project which should come to fruition for next year. As to this season, it depends where I will be working. Should have a better idea by next week.

Although I plan to sell it, if the work location fits, I'm sure the Capri will be out at least once this year. The MG should make an appearance in HSCC but it is dependent on geography.

And yes, I will update the calendar this week!

For me 2013 isn't going to be the amazing year I was planning the idea WAS to do full season of JD Classics an maybe the odd masters race in the little warrior NSU BUT....
The NSU will be getting a little clean up, engine Rebuild and if the parts are here in time the car will be heading to 'techno classica' show essen in April to be sold!

Coys are doing the auction there.... Any objections, thoughts, feelings on Coys over any other auction house?

Reason for Coys and Essen: its a very large European show, Europe/Germans 'get' the NSU more so that UK.

Great club and great racing. Never boring! Have already renewed my membership even though may not be with them much this season. Having said that Classic FF2000 races with HSCC as could the Escort now the Touring Car Trophy is being run by them, so could get something in return.....

I am fed up with all this club joining and registrations as well, can they not see they are seriously shooting themselves in the foot? According to the MSA you have to belong to just one recognised club. Not sure what I am doing if anything, have a grenaded engine in one car and a load of niggling jobs on the other one plus I need to refit the C/R box in that as the gearing is all wrong with the spare box. I also want to get the Penske IROC done.
