I dont have an elligible car they are too strict with what they will and wont allow in and there is no way I could get an MOT and do a road based championship or run on standard brakes, thats just dangerous, simple as that, I have tried it and if you like chinging 150 quids worth of pads every meeting and terminal brake fade at the end of the Revett then go for it but not for me thanks.

HSCC/HRSR in the Alfa again.

Hopefully manage a full season rather than the disappointing effort of 2012

I have no intention of ever getting involved in karts.
have signed up to do the few HRDC races and am sort of hoping I can get the Tornado finished and run that by mid summer. . . . unlikely but one has to try, having said that, the date change clashes with my oldest friends wedding, so its all looking a bit dodgy. Spa in May is writtien in ink, with full board approval.

Have been slowly collecting parts to restore my '69 Lambretta Grand Prix, that's quite exciting, A GP was my first Lambretta and the same colour . . . . sad, but a few tins of paint arrived the other day and it was quite exciting!

CSCC Swinging Sixties and Bernies HVRA (dates pending) for me. Last winter the car went on a diet, this year it will be me - starting tomorow/next week/February................

Missus has tickets for a concert in Milan mid summer, done this before by air but decided to make it a roadtrip this time so we're going to have a few days playing on old hillclimbs and passes in the Alps before the gig, then few days on the French Riviera/Monte rally stages before coming home. Unfortunately it clashes with a couple of events but I gotta keep the brownie points up

Having missed all last year I'd really like to get out this year - but as usual finances are looking strained . Really need to get myself sorted and get some stock shifted - then will maybe get out in the more Northern CSCC Future Classic rounds - and possibly some of the AROC race series....if and when it gets sorted.....

This year I will mostly be racing in CSCC Swinging Sixties with Daniel in his Escort Mexico.

I will also hopefully be racing the Mustang in the States & maybe a round or two of Bernie's HVRA rounds & possibly Spa if I can.

You pay all your entries up front in return for a mere 2.5% discount (probably get as much leaving the money in the bank and withdrawing it as you go), I was wondering if they had made a mistake with the decimal point and it should be 25% discount because I think thats what its going to take in 2013 t get guys out again.

Well, you can be pessimistic Al, but I've got three new customers coming this week who are starting racing. I've also had the best Christmas period for some time, and anecdotal evidence is that all the racewear retailers in the country have done the same. For a short period there was a dire shortage of racewear in the UK!

It's not the "sport" that's suffering, but certain race series. Historic racing will continue to boom "because of" not "despite" its cost.

You speak in riddles Max.

I will mention here the CTCRC do allow you to pay £25 three times a year to do a single round and that covers BARC and CTCRC membership, a facility I will probably use again as I did last season.

If you are saying that cars that comply to the preset of certain Historic rules are on the up do you recommend I backward modify my 71 Camaro and it will be worth more money as I have all the bits to do such a sacrilidge. be nice to know as i am about to build an engine and can certainly Group One it if required! Mind you if I did that and got it all legal no doubt everyone would come flying past, strange that.

Don't you remember the old Stella Artois advert: "Reassuringly expensive"?

What buzz does a rich businessman get from showing off that he runs in a cheap racing series? He wants to race in a series that keeps the like of you and me on the spectator side of the fence Witness the rise of the big Festivals.

Motor sport has never been healthier, maybe the series which you have contact with are struggling but there's so many opportunities to compete across the whole spectrum of the sport that you'll find something. Perhaps not many people are interested in racing cheap old 1970s/80s/90s saloon cars except genuine originals in high profile meetings?

I don't "recommend" anything.

I'm simply saying that you think your CTCRC series or whatever it is will struggle for numbers because of costs, but the Silverstone Classic, Goodwood, Le Mans events have full grids. Also, I'm busy and selling top end gear rather than the cheaper stuff.

Go figure.

No I was asking a question, simple and not neccessarily to you but generally. If I was to downgrade my car to Group one spec and please dont tell me most of those are genuine ex Gp 1 cars with the original bodyshells etc, just look at the advice on here given to the guy that buys X00 Alan Mann Escort, i.e. dont race it as it wont be competive???? So if its not competitive whats this Gp 1 thing all about if a genuine car wouldnt be competitive? I was asking is my car worth more downgraded as I am thinking of selling it and just keeping the later model. And why would I do this, because of money the older stuff is making although I prefer to drive the newer car and that I think is the real problem with more grass roots Historic racing, i.e the value of the cars now.
