Satorian has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Williams selling shares to Toto Wolff

As Sportwoche reports, Frank Williams agreed to sell a minority share of his Williams F1 stake (70%, the other 30% being held by Patrick Head) to Austrian business man Toto Wolff, who will take one of four board seats in the team. It's rumoured that Wolff secured an option for further shares in the future.

Wolff, in a relationship with Susie Stoddart, is an avid amateur racing driver and has partnered Karl Wendlinger in the FIA GT racing series in the past, as well as tried to break Niki Lauda's F1 record on the Nordschleife in a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR.

Edit: Well, the title sounds more sensational that it's supposed to be. Could some mod please change this to "Williams selling a minority part of his shares to Toto Wolff"?

What a fantastic name. Can somebody please make an "Africa" or "Wolff F1" joke, please?

And well, if they're going to sell shares to anyone, I'm glad it's to someone with a lot of history in motor sport and some passion for it rather than a faceless group of men in grey suits.

Edit: So I guess he's kind of like Lukas Lichner-Hoyer then?

Toto Wolff? Sounds like something from a version of the Wizard of Oz on acid

Interesting. I hope this can spur Williams on to being a force in F1 again.

Didn't Frank Williams work for Walter Wolf before starting Williams GPE?

Walter Wolf bought out Williams in '76, renaming it Walter Wolf Racing.
Williams left the following year to start the current Williams team.

Thanks, I knew there was a connection (and didn't think of checking Wikipedia for the answer!).
Thanks for that

The interesting part of all this is Wolff's involvement in HWA tuning and the engine possibilities (Mercedes related) that may arise from that I would imagine?

Wouldn't that take them to four teams, unless McLaren get their own motors for 2011? In which case maybe Force India, whose relationship is with McLaren not Mercedes if I remember correctly could switch over to McLaren/Mahle/WhoeverHasTheBadgingRights.

Mercedes have already stated this year that they can go to 4 customers - it's no problem for them. They wanted to supply Red Bull due to Vettel but McLaren stood in their way

Isn't there something in Concorde or regs that limits how many teams can have one brand of engine? I guess that would go out the window if another manufacturer would quit, I'd just hope that someone would buy the IP to either the BMW, Toyota or Honda lumps and build a job-lot of them to supply them a la Cosworth to ensure some diversity ...

Given that there are only 4 engine manufacturers in F1 now and 13 teams, the FIA pretty much haven't got a choice - they'd have to let them

As it stands now Cossie will be supplying 5 teams - If Renault bows out either Ferrari or Mercedes could supply RBR and still be in accordance with the concorde agreement
