I have also been after info on Mr. Flux as far as I can remember he drove in the BTCC back in 93 i think in a cavalier but thats about my knowledge of the guy I believe he also raced GT's for a while after that. Im after his birthdate to add to our anniversary files so if anyone could enlighten Crash test and my self with some info it would be appreciated

Fluxie has been around for ages.
I think he started as a mechanic for Graham Hill.
He raced F3 in the UK about 20+ years ago.
Has raced about everything going...
Has done the TVR Tuscan series for several years, still does a few races when sponsorship allows.
Has raced GTs on and off for the last few years - often as a replacement driver at the last miniute...
Acts as a track tester for Motoring News - his reports are very entertaining.
I think he does a lot of track day work etc.
Great as an after dinner speaker.

Ian Flux...

Great guy... He taught me everything i know... i went to school at Donnington Park and Silverstone and he was my instructor. I thinks he also raced some F1 and in know he was in the Jaguar XJ-15R racing program.

This is one of motorsports real characters and the sooner he writes abook the better. He came to one of our (BMMC) clubnights and kept us amused for hours. If you ever get the chance to hear him "in concert" take it, his lifestory is amazing and not all of it for this forum.

He also drove a 405 in the BTCC around 92/93.

Flux seems quite a unique surname, is he anything to do with Adrian Flux the insurers or is that just coincidence?

Used have 'For Flux Sake' written on the side of his cars. He's a great lad. Also did some Formula Atlantic I think.

Ian Flux DOB 11 May 1956 (ain't google wonderful?).
He was best man at Tiff Needell's wedding.
Adrian started insurance broking when as a youngster he built a kitcar and couldn't find insurance for it, so he'd be the right age to be a brother maybe?

Fluxie was racing in the first race I ever saw live, Sports 2000 at Donington Park - I think a support race for ETCC. Since then he's raced almost anything anywhere and with great success. An absolute star in TVR Tuscans. He drove the Lister Storm GT1 alongside Jake Ulrich, either disappearing into the distance and then watching Jake try to hang on to the lead, or recovering from the back after Jake had started from pole and gone backwards.

Having met him several times along the way, seems a thoroughly pleasant, top bloke. The way racing drivers should be. Probably could have been a Le Mans winner with the right breaks, but a fantastic career as a great all-rounder.

I still treasure one of his stickers:- FOR FLUX SAKE

(In those days every programme used to have stickers given away with it.. Without even being an assiduous collector I have boxes full. What happened to this craze?)

Regards

Great bloke ,
Formula Vee champion in 1972 or 73 ? I used to 'mechanic' (12 yrs old !) for my brother and Ian used to win everything, as I recall,
I raced against him at the 2007 Vee anniversay both of us in UK spec GAC vees, we raced for second place (a german spec vee was miles in front) for 10 'mad' laps, until my throttle jammed, it was great, nothing 'totally' stupid, just extremely close stuff, I wont ever forget it,
last thing i heard he was racing a Mosler,

Ian is one of the many who has never seemed to get quite all of the success his talent deserves - lack of money and lack of luck rather than lack of talent!

Flux has indeed driven a Mosler in the Dutch Supercar Challenge for Kevin Riley Motorsport, in 2008. I believe money is a bit tight, I haven't seen much of him this year.

I saw him racing this year in the Radical Cup at Rockingham. It was at the BRSCC meeting with the Trucks and Dunlop Sport Maxx.

He drove a 405 in 92/93 in BTCC and there was a 'Race of My Life' feature on him in Autosport not so long ago

If you used to have a pet monkey, then the chances are we used to watch him racing together!

I think it must have been mid 80's that Ian was racing in Formula Vee with my Step-Dad (Glenn Hay - also a Vee championship winner) mechanicing for him.

I know they've met up a few times since then, but I think that's the last time I saw him. I think he also won the TVR Tuscan championship?

He's a bloody good driver and I remember him being a pretty cool bloke!
