What are crew chiefs
Hello, folks! I've been reading about Nascar for a while, and I still don't understand what is a crew chief. According to this, some teams seem to have only one crew chief, which would mean they are the team principals (like Ross Brawn or Martin Whitmarsh in F1). But other teams have one crew chief per driver, so it looks like they are the strategy lead (like Roger Penske and Tim Cendric in Penske). Can you explain it to me? Thanks!

Owner = Principle
Crew Chief = Team Manager Lead Mechanic = Lead Engineer That's how I see it anyway. There is usually a guy with a clipboard and pencil behind the crew chief that does most of the "strategizing" and adjustments. The crew chief is the decision maker however. |
