Any Capri fans out there, get yerself to Silverstone this weekend!

No less than 12 of the venerable old beasts entered in the Classic Touring Car Racing Club's Group 1 double header event (racing Saturday and Sunday 16th/17th June), should be quite a sight fans of this marque! (Where is Mr. Mallet?)

GBRM should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
By the lack of responses Al I'd say the only Capri fans out there are the ones in our club, weirdos!! Hopefully I'll beat one or two of them on Saturday and you can do the rest on Sunday.

In all seriousness I think it will be quite a spectalce and would quite like to be on the outside watching, not peddling as fast as I can!!

Enjoy yourself Al (and the rest obviously), wish I could be there. Damn business.

12 Capris? Now that could be fun.

Cheers for that Al!

What's this Alan Mann Racing Mk3 Capri 3.0 with a Henry Mann driving it then?!!!

Assuming that's the Alan Mann that sort of makes me think back a few decades when after the massive Cortina successes, I often wondered how AMR would've fared if he'd have continued into the 70's and 80's against for example CC, if they had been both running Capri's for Ford in Grp 1 or something?

A case of wihsful thinking....

Anyway shame I couldn't make this event as I think i'd have loved it with all those Essex engined Capris!

It was indeed Alan Mann's son who was joined by our Gregor Marshall (GBRM, Gerry's son) who was very pleased to finish his first races, well done both of you guys.

Thanks Al, wish I had of been higher up the grid but tried my hardest and we've just not got the straight line power, standard engine is no good, through the complex great, could actually catch Stacy but down the straights rubbish.

Henry Mann's car looked fantastic, maybe a bit over engineered/complicated but as long as he enjoyed it.

P.S. Sorry to see you had another bad one at Silverstone Al and apologies for not saying goocby, didn;t leave the circuit until 6:30 and by that time I was swamped by F1 transporters, it was unbelievable to see each team have at least two huge transports (McLaren had five!!) when you consider there was a race going on!

To me that was on topic, the Capris were more of a sight!

I'm not sure what's happening with the Alan Mann Capri but apparently they are building a Lotus Cortina for Henry to race and he is just driving the Capri for experience and whilst the Cortina is being built, so should be a nice link to the past when it's finished.

Thanks Pete, I certainly enjoyed it, the car handled brilliantly but just not enough power, I'm certainly not the next Brian Hart when it comes to building powerful engines on a budget but at least it was reliable.

Uncle Gerry J is helping though; it's just taking a bit longer than thought. Hopefully new engine should be in car for the next round I do at Snetterton (Croft and Pembrey next, but too far to travel with my budget) in August.

I know. I was talking to Henry and Alan at Silverstone in May when we were on the GP circuit. There were 6 Capris in that race.

Unfortunately I think it's one of those things that has caught up with him from doing too many heads in the kitchen over the years. It is a shame, he;s a lovely guy.
If you're close to Gerry go give him a nudge for me!!

There were a lot of black boxes in the boot of that Capri; I think it was probably a blessing he finished far down as it might have been an interesting situation!!

Anyone got any pics of that particular car or indeed any from the event?

I'm interested to know if this car has been built specifically for this series for Henry or whether it's got some 'proper' Grp 1 history behind it??

It was built by Alan Daffin for Henry.

On that subject the Faberge car is one of the Ford display cars and has the original paintwork.

Not sure it had any comp history though.

I didn't get any pictures due to peddling very hard but there are some somewhere!!

I think the car has been built for the Top Hat/Masters stuff but not sure.
