The BRSCC have a page for this meeting, but the timetable and final instruction links don't have anything on them yet, but should do later.

Try : http://www.brscc.co.uk/calendar/even...ingref=ss25mar

I belive that they are Oulton (8th April), Snetterton (13/14th May) and Donington (5th August), plus the Winter Series at Donington and Brands Hatch (4th and 18th November, respectively).

This link takes you to the event downloads for the Silverstone meeting and includes the timetable and entry list (up to 15/03/06 at the time of posting).

There seems to be a healthy entry list, including the Britsports (as long as they all turn up!).

...and its Britcar and Ford Saloons for me as well! Looks like I'll be sleeping at the Hotel Peugeot at Mallory Sat' night as I can't afford a B&B. Looking at the weather on the tv tonight it looks like it'll be a wet(ish) Britcar and a sunny Mallory with temp's up a liitle on recent days thank goodness!!

So how many of us 10/10th people will be at Silverstone for the EERC meeting tomorrow? I should be there unless weather takes a turn for the worse.

Britcar Testing

Hi,

I attended the Britcar/EERC test today. Got to the circuit at around 10.35am just in time for a red flag that stopped the production class testing. Their session did not get started again. So I only managed to catch the Britsports and then the Britcar tests. Took my camera as always and will post a link to the pics as soon as I get a moment.

Left around 1pm, weather at the start was terrible grey and wet, but it brightened up nicely as the day went on.

Some nice cars on the track this year, and the Porsche 935 Replica looks and sounds superb.

Enjoy the race if you're planning to attend.

Regards

Tim

You'll all be sorry to hear, my smiling (leering) face will not be around the britcar pits much this year, i'm going to fly the 10 tenths flag in the Belgium Touring cars this year.

Most likely catch everyone at the first brands round if it does not clash.

As has been mentioned - us V8 types were going to be "measured" for power and weight, but that idea has been canned. Ideas for a class structure are being discussed, and this year is all about formation.

The Oulton round isn't happening, Snetterton will be the beginning with an open round, no class structure, a free-for-all to see what does what.

I was there on Friday, and decided to do a short run in the afternoon as part of a shakedown to see if I'd fixed a major oil system problem. Judging by the way I woke a few people up, the V8's will get a lot of support.

What was that Eurotech..... "What the..."

Well I hate to say I told you so but this Power/Weight thing was never going to work sorry. Nice idea and I have looked into it before and gave up the idea, why don't guys do a little more homework before taking things this far and costing others large ammounts of wedge.

That's what the meeting was about Al. Mr Tucker has consulted the interested parties and has asked for solutions. The Power to Weight was a "first thought" as it does work in the BMW's, but with the broad mix of cars in the V8's (Marcos' TVR's Aussie V8's, SCV8's, V8 Stars, etc..) it was felt that it may (would) not work. Plus the chance that it's far too easy to abuse the system with the ability to have more than one map in an ECU - one for the race, one for the scrutineer!

So, the answer appears to be what has worked so well in GT's - air restrictors on the inlets. For carb engines like mine, a simple restrictor plate, but for the injected cars it'll be restrictors like the modern GT's use.

The formula has yet to be announced, but there may be more than one, to allow for different classes.

So, there you have it Al, you're ol' boat could stand a chance at being competitive!!

Restrictor plates blimey so what happens if someone turns up with say an all alloy 454 Chevy against say a 3.5 Rover engined car, how do they work out what size restrictor, what for example would I have to run in my 350 against your 400? I am not trying to pour cold water on the idea but at least by discussing it there is a chance any unforeseen pitfalls could be worked out. For example a restrictor or small sized carb on the bigger engine would ammount to a huge ammount of usable torque so the big lump would again have an advantage. There is a good example of this when using Webbers (or better still direct port injection) on a V8 as although the cfm for the total chokes would be more than say an 850 Holley the webber carburated car would have a much broader power band as each cylinder only sees one choke not a whopping great 850 carb.

The theory with a restrictor plate is that it does just that. Calculate the size of the holes to get the horsepower figure that you want, and that's all it will do.

On a multi-throttle car, like using webers, or injection, you have a single, or a pair of restrictors on the inlet to the airbox.

It works on GT's, the FIA have proven it, the SCCA have done the same.

Think of it this way, if the engine can only breathe in a fixed amount of air/fuel, it can only produce a certain horsepower figure, regardless of it's capacity.

Consider your point about the 3.5L Rover, and the 454 Big Block. On the Big Block, the restrictor works, and "strangles" the engine down to the required (for example) 500bhp.
The Rover will struggle to make 450, so the restrictor plate would have no effect what so ever, it can't use that much air.

The MSA also had a restrictor plate calculation which was used on the DeTomaso that ran in the British GT's a few years back.

Your point about torque, and power bands, is all noted. My issue was that the size of the restrictor may stifle my lump to the point where I need to spend vast sums of money of a transmission to make better use of the strangled engine, ie: more gears.
Right now, I use a Muncie 4 speed which costs less than a proper gearbox for a Mk2 Escort. If I go for a 6 speed box, I'm looking at between £2K and £10K depending on the complexity.

I was sceptical about it at first, but when you look at GT championships around the world, and how close they are (except for ALMS with the Audi Diesel!), and the fact that they all use restrictors to equalise the field.

Rob.
