Does anyone have any photos or links to article/stories about this car?

Ekström did not drive for Volvo in 1999, that was his championship year for Audi (he only did one season for Audi in Sweden). In 1997 Ekström raced an independent 850, chassis number R-6-001. It was built for the 1995 BTCC season and raced by Rydell & Harvey. In 1996 the car was converted to 96 spec and used as a spare car before being sold to Picko Troberg Racing who ran Ekström in STCC in 1997. He finished second in the championship. The car was then loaned to Patrik Ernstson for the 1998 season finale as a prize for his win of the 1997 Volvo S40 Junior category. Ernstson however was involved in a major crash and the car was destroyed. What remained was returned to SportPromotion who stored it untill 1999 when the chassi was melted down. The running gear was transfered to chassis R-6-008 before that.
R-6-008 was originally a spare bodyshell from 1996. From what I know it remains unraced; the car is now owned by Sven Kristofersen in Norway. |

Wow, a black Volvo. It's a shame that minichamps never recreated the STCC 850s or the ASTC 850 wagon!
