What about Luca Filippi, Sam Bird, Christian Vietoris, Dani Clos, Robert Wickens and Albert Costa?

Vietoris - probably committing himself to tin tops. Shame because I was quite impressed by him last year all things considering. Bird - could possibly be DTM bound with Mercedes. Hopefully not - he would be a title contender for sure Clos - Rapax seat is probably likely Wickens and Costa - not nearly enough budget for GP2. Not sure what their next moves are. |

I hope Bird stays on for a 3rd season because he's been really quick in the last 2 years, just lacking a bit of luck in some races maybe. Think he'd definitely challenge for the title if he stayed on. Not sure why Clos didn't deliver last year, he was an outside tip for the title by myself (which turned out to be completely wrong obviously).

Costa is GT/PROTO bound, he's skint according to himself. Which is a shame as he can be a champinship contender with right seat.
I do hope Birdy's gone. No point in staying put when you have, if he still has, Merc deal, hope to see him in factory backed SLS or C-Class. ven with Rapax, I believe Clos will do it and closely fight for title in GP2. |

I would love to see Bird stay but it would be a win-or-bust situation. A DTM move at least give him time and it did Di Resta no harm.
Yes I am ignoring Dario, Paffett, Carroll etc |

I think Da Costa could stick with Ocean for this season. Don't know if he has the budget to complete all races, but he could be among their best options, so it is advisable to be considered by them.

I meant Albert Costa, you thought Da Costa, yes I think Da Costa could be a potential race winner in a good team.

I'm not saying all of them didn't recover varying degrees of well. I'm also not saying it helped.

it didn't help if their end goal was f1. 2/3 of them are now paid to be racing drivers though, so if that was their end goal then it worked

Guiedo Van der Garde is about to be confirmed as GP2 driver for Caterham Racing. As a part of the deal to take part on Friday sessions in the F1 team.

It will be interesting to see if the Friday sessions he is doing are on non-GP2 weekends. Is Rossi definitely signed up for FR 3.5 with Arden? I thought I read there was some doubt about that. He would make an excellent teammate to Giedo. |

I believe he is with Arden Caterham in FR3.5S. Talking of which, it may turn out to be an epic season. Autosport "understands" that Sam Bird is joining the field. Waiting for few more sign ups and it looks as though the 3.5 grid will be stronger than GP2 one.

It was already going to be brilliant, without the GP2 defectors.....

That's what doesn't make sense to me though. He is still linked with Caterham and it has a presence in GP2 but not (as yet) FR 3.5, and he does 3.5 again

That was my initial thought, and it would certainly work with Giedo doing the events outside the GP2 calendar and Rossi doing the remaining events. If that was the plan I would have thought it would have been announced by now.

it makes sense, particularly if rossi has to find the majority of the cash himself. why bother going up to gp2 if you quite blatently have an excellent chance at the fr3.5 title if you do a good job? is there anything extra to be learned from gp2 over fr3.5 from a f1 teams perspective?
if he can only raise a fr3.5 budget then surely they'd have to subsidise the rest for a gp2 budget? imo it's not just as simple as they have a presence in gp2 therefore that's what he should do. and fair play about the friday practice point. |
