Well I'm making the pilgrimage to Autosport, and even though I'm not racing myself ATM it's reasonably interesting. Some interesting cars, some ordinary ones, bit on the whole I'm glad I haven't paid to come in...if you were serious about kitting your car out then you can do just as well on the internet.
I've just paid £3.75 for a pint which is no more than in my local so all's well with the world! Suppose I ought to do some work. But then again... Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk |

For those of you who have access to Facebook you might want to check out the link below. It's the FJHRA's page and one of the most recent posts is a series of photos taken of 'period' FJ drivers etc taken during a gathering at the current Autosport show:

According to a very learned sounding chap on the radio t’other day, the first car ever fitted with central locking was the Renault Fuego. Can a humble Regie coupe really have beaten all the luxo barge manufacturers to the accolade?

When I first went to Secondary school our French teacher, Mrs Fox, drove a Fuego, it always had smoke coming out of the drivers window.

When I was working in car leasing, the buyer at one of our biggest customers chain smoked. If his Cortina / Grandad ever came back to base for work you could guarantee the windscreen would appear to have been dark tinted.....

That would have been Madame Renard.
Interestingly Ford holds the rights to heated windscreens. VW had them but paid royalties for the use. |

To be specific the Fuego was the first car to have remote control central locking in the early eighties. Non remote power locks go back to the fifties. A luxury American manufacturer introduced them and other luxury brands followed quickly.

Think that was Giles Chapman the new editor of Classic & Sports Car mag - on Simon Mayo's show on Radio 2 if I'm not mistaken Mike?

The design engineer at the engineering company I worked for in the 1980's had one of those Renaults as his company car. I sometimes accompanied him to site visits and always annoyed him just before we saet off by saying "OK, off-Fuego!"

I liked the 'central locking on a Skoda' joke.
Both arms held out sideways and you rock from side to side. A visual joke of course. |

Back in the day I can't see any good reason why they fitted an anti theft device to a Fuego… Nobody wanted to steal any apart from a complete jerk!
Mon Ami Robert, you must know why Ladas and Skodas have a heating rear window. It works with some Renault's and Volgas too… |

It's tipping down once more today. There's a competition running on local radio to see if anyone in Nord Pas de Calais knows the whereabouts of the sun. |

Nord Pas de Calais, watzat? You probably mean Hauts de France then, John!
Mike, are you sure the towing limit is settled at 3,5 tonnes? Things have changed here in order to keep "harmony" with our neighbors. The special licence and the calculation involving the weight of the towing car and the trailer recently changed. Everybody is lost even the cops! I just know that my SW plus the trailer are limited around 4 tons but not sure. In principle I dont have to have a medical advice very two years. What do i know? Yes, old jokes still work right for me Gordon! |

Do you know the reason for the Hauts de France title? It is because we are above Paris in every sense! You know we have our biggest motor sport event of the year at the end of the month - the Le Touquet Enduro. I believe there are 1,101 entrants & more than 250,000 visitors are expected |

Is that a beach motorcycle race like we have in Weston? Never been to watch yet but I've seen it on local TV. Totally mental!
