NO Comparison

I've been to the Bristol night race & I can't believe ANY race could compare !
Not been to Daytona but hear it is so big that you only see a small part.
You can see the whole track @ Bristol, sat in several areas, no bad seats.

I definitely agree with that. I've seen some great short track racing on my visits across the pond.

Favourites in order of size:
Super-speedway: Daytona and Talladega. Watching the night race last year on the TV with Michael Waltrip's onboard camera from his rear bumper. Great stuff!

Speedway: Darlington- the high banking lends itself well to close racing

Short Track: Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City - a great 3/8th mile NASCAR-sanctioned track that I've been lucky enough to get to a couple of times. Relatively high banking with Late Models, Sprint Cars and allsorts on the bill. Shame about the unbelievable temperatures - 109 deg F during the day :-( Sometimes it's too much for a limey to handle!

Personally,I'd also pick a day race at Bristol over a Daytona event any day,or over any plate race for that matter. Plates suck.

What no Bristol, how could this be from a true Nascar fan?Of the ones on the list I did vote Dega, because of the 3 wide racing, though Michigan and Pocono are a close second.

North Wilkesboro was one of the best short tracks in the South along with Martinsville and then add Bristol when it came aboard.

Anuauto has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
When I was temporarily out of the UK in 78/9 I lived between Dover and Pocono. Of the tracks I visited, I would vote Martinsville as the nicest place to attend a race. I deeply regret never getting to Bristol or Wilksboro. Didnt night racing at Bristol start or restart that year?

I couldn't vote because my favourite changes from week to week!

Love the wide-open, multi-lane racing (and tight finishes) of places like Michigan and Texas, the quirkiness of a r-oval like Pocono, the tight bullrings like Bristol and Martinsville, the bumper-to-bumper tension of the both plate tracks (as well as the atmosphere of Daytona) and, while I'm talking atmosphere you gotta mention the Brickyard, the history and tradition of places like Darlington, Charlotte and Richmond and the total contrast of having to turn right on both road courses.

Before I started watching NASCAR I used to think one oval track was just the same as the next oval track, but the sheer diversity of different types is amazing.

Good post gsxr1. I like the diversity of the tracks. that is why I hate cookie-cutter tracks and hope we see no more of them being built. Tracks like Pocono, Bristol, Martinsville, Darlington, etc really add interest to the racing.

I can't remember when Bristol restarted the night racing in the late summer race.
Night racing @ Bristol has been in effect for several years & it is AWESOME !
The spring day race is really awesome too, great short-track racing !
The night racing creates an aura & the drivers are more aggresive at night.

Cheers, thanks for the welcome.

I've been following NASCAR closely for the past four or five years but, as you can imagine, it doesn't have a very big following here 'down-under', so it should be good to come here and chat to like-minded fans.

Just as an aside though I can lay claim to meeting a couple of Cup drivers, albeit before they were the stars they are today. I used to work at Claremont Speedway here in Perth before it closed down, and was lucky enough to meet both Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart when they came out here to race Sprintcars and Midgets respectively some years ago (before their stockcar careers) but I've followed them with interest since.

Sorry, strayed off topic a bit.
