Alonso to receive penalty and now Schumacher too!

News is begining to appear on sites that Alonso might have a 2s penalty for Brake testing Doornbos.

It is all a bit sketchy at the moment...

I would assume that's a qually penalty?

Appears so, one second in each session for baulking Doornbos, plus one second in each session for passing under yellows.

Qually is usually quite close in Hungary.2 seconds would be a long way back!

I am being punished by the Gods. The time I decide not to get up at 6am to watch practice something interesting happens. The alarms went off and everything...ah, well, it is my own fault.

It seems this is only at the "rumours" stage, then? If we suppose it will turn out to be true, then it is really is rather intriguing. I certainly hope it is true. I don't have anything against Alonso or Renault, but it is very helpful in aiding Ferrari.

I would say Q1 without any difficulties. Q2 could be rather more tricky, but ultimately doable (if not likely).

Last year 2s off pole would have put you 10th, 2s off Alonsos time was 15th. OK Q is different, but it is an indication. It should get him into Q2.

Presumambly pitpass would not claim such a steward statement existed if it didn't, but I wouldn't put a Officially-Official stamp on it quite yet...

i dont think Renault are 2 secs quicker than the Redbulls, BMW's and Williams's who are normally squabbling to get into Q3....
this will be a major blow for Alonso if the penalty is imposed

Some of us are trying to get some decent discussion about this in before it is ruined by the same old same old.

So we thing Q2 is on - it looks like a definite mid grid slot and probably a couple of points at best. The Renault doesn't look too hot this weekend.

It will be interesting to see the incidents and judge if it is a fair reflection. When in the sessions did they happen? Where on the circuit?

Race stewards punished world champion Fernando Alonso for dangerous driving on Friday with a time penalty for qualifying that could severely dent his Hungarian Grand Prix hopes.

They said in a statement that the Renault driver would have two seconds added to his fastest lap in each stage of Saturday's qualifying.

1 second isnt too bad.... though i still think he will struggle to make it to Q3...especially with Renault not running the dampers....

edit : however he has been given an added 1 second penalty for passing a car under yellows....hence the 2 secs
