Well, there is plenty of smoke about this rumor, that's for sure.

The article mentions 2018 which I think is a more believable timeframe than 2017 given how BMW would need to build the required infrastructure first.

One thing is for certain: The mentioned G56 project can only be a stepping stone as the ACO has made it pretty clear that they will only allow manufacturers to do that if it's a step towards LMP1. Just G56 won't fly...

And about the conflict of may having to race their partner Toyota, well, let's see if that will still be an issue in 2018...

The announcement was specifically mentioned to be about LMP1.

Also, Sam Collins said that "Twitter would be buzzing about it", none of these two apply to the Alpine thing.

I'd be personally surprised by a BMW LMP1 announcement, despite the rumours. Doesn't an LMGTE/LMGTP car based on the i8 going up against the new NSX make more sense?

Didn't somebody mention a Renault LMP rumour?

Anything is possible via waivers but I think GTE is pretty far from getting hybridized.

They have the M6, no reason for another GT car. They want in GTE? Modify the new M6 GT3.

Hopefully this is an attempt by bmw to move the rules to even more open. He also makes it known that he wants BMW's 'image' to be prevalent.
