For most of the year the other 2015 general US thread was locked so it's no surprise everything miscellaneous has been thrown here, by me - and you - and everyone else.

Also me thinks WSC is such horribly unsuitable acronym for this series given the historical connotation, I'd pick any other of the 10 options available.

After 2004 the Chevrolet Corvette was racing against itself.
Had Penske not had Porsche connections and they skewed the rules from what the ACO wanted in 2008, it would have been Audi and Chevrolet racing against them selves week, after week, after week.
Which it turned into anyway.

Not a lot different from GARRA.

Had those prototypes drawn the people you infer they did, the series would still be going.
The draw of the P cars to the general racing public is a fraction of what some here think it is.
At the same time watching GT cars dummied down to the lowest common denominator, doe not fool anyone either.
It is a contrived fix and most people know it.

Yeah and thanks to skewing the rules in 2008 it was Honda racing against itself in both prototype classes for the next 5 years.

If IMSA ran your mythical GT class there would be zero cars, the factory programs (barring BMW who can't be be bothered to build one of these cars let alone one of those) all exist to race at Le Mans and the GTD teams can't afford to go that fast.

Lol at the randomly picked year for "end of competition in GT1", two seasons early (and at LM four years). And the Audi thing is equally laughable

The ALMS fell for these reasons

- Economic downturn of 08-09
- ILMC/WEC taking its toll
- Certain IMSA Management errors
- Money drain leading up to the fusion buyout

Interesting that Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, Acura, et al have designed and built modern hybrids. It seems they have found a need to do so.

I think the mid-engined LMP1 Corvette will be the first Corvette hybrid.

Yeah, I know "They race in tusc and gte because Corvette is not a hybrid..." you missed the point I was making. Basically the future is hybrid sportscars, the NSX being one of the first somewhat affordable ones. And its only a matter of time before these hybrids are allowed in GTE. "So what will become of the Vette (in name) in the future?" Will they (GM) have another (hybrid) sportscar, say a Caddy, or will that be a Vette model is my line of thought. Thats the question that they will have to answer. Thats the question lots of manufacturers will have to answer.

I was being generous choosing that year, I should have said 2003.
After that any competition was lackluster or because of whining for rule changes.

Actually after the Ferrari challenge in 2003 how many GT 1 races did the Corvette lose with out a rule change so its opposition stood a chance.

Aston Martin came, and won, but only after their whining caused (and this was *****ed about on this site way back then)

Recent rule changes have tilted the playing field, making Corvette Racing's task more difficult.

"Through no one's fault, we weren't able to capture the crown at Sebring last year - the luck just wasn't with us," said Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan. "This year we are fully prepared once again, and we hope to start the season with a better result than last year. We know that overcoming the performance adjustments is going to be a challenge."

Success brings rewards. In the case of Corvette Racing, the team's success in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the ALMS were rewarded with a 55-kilogram (121-pound) weight increase over last season. That's in addition to the 25-kilogram (55-pound) increase mandated for all GT1 entries in 2006.

The bottom line: The new Corvette C6.Rs must weigh 1180 kilograms (2601 pounds), a 176-pound increase over last year. Consequently the yellow Corvettes are now 121 pounds heavier than their Aston Martin and Saleen competitors. Adjustments to engine intake air restrictors have also benefited Corvette Racing's rivals.

"We've demonstrated over the last 12 months our willingness to work with the sanctioning body to help teams that don't have the technology available to them that we have at Corvette Racing," said Fehan.
In the interest of great racing, sometimes adjustments have to be made for those whose car, technology and engineering are not the equal of the Corvette. Providing some rules concessions will help them to be competitive. This will strengthen the ALMS series and ultimately add to the enjoyment of the fans."?\


So yes, I ignored Aston Martin, where the Ferrari boys were a real heads-up challenge the Aston Martin only did well because the contrived competition bop rule change.

How may wins did the Saleen have after 2003?

You missed the part where you own post mentions Aston Martin beat them straight up at Sebring on both car's debut in 2005.

2006 was actually tire BoP because AM's funding hinged on useless Pirelli tires and Konrad ran them too.

Last decade the only season with actual BoP mess in LMGT was 2006 ALMS GT1, for reasons of widely known. But after it wasnt until circa GT2 2010 (+/-1 year depending viewpoint) and into the new decade that the philosophy started to model GT3 model of doing things out of bingo machine, because of the category becoming sole GT entity and organizers pushing everything in it with lust. Allowing the obviously illegal M3 GT2 in 2009 was one of the first reasons it started to slip, then they had to allow Corvette GT2 in too with bucketloads of waivers, soon it was the norm for everyone. Race-by-race adjustments started to stack in slowly

@others: as much as I like to go through the history of the sport and as much as the current series have their roots in the former ALMS (and GrandAm series), all these this or that discussions have no place here, take 'm to the appropriate thread. If there's not one, start one.

@Joeb: time for another (sigh...) warning or two? I don't like this thread to be closed (temp or not) cause there will be too much stuff for next year and beyond coming up in the (near) future.

As what is happening now,mimics the recent past, or even not recent past to a degree, its inclusion on what is coming or will happen fits quite well to a certain degree.

One reason I started this thread was all the "well wait till...." ten years ago and I wanted to see persons opinions now, especially since some of the same people are still here.

A guessamatic of --well they are going to do this, that or the other thing --based on nothing but desire is not as logical as -- well they are going to do this, that or the other thing-- based on a success or failure from the past.

It was a rhetorical question. Unless you work for GM and know their plans for sportscars, no one can say anything official. Im going to leave it there since this is a 2016 thread and not one concerning GT's future.

Some 2016 speculation already at VIR for the GT3 class. A Corvette GT3 not being ruled out (I don't put much in that one). But Kettler saying that there will be an Audi armada for Daytona pretty much. I wonder what teams will be involved in that. I'm sure it will be the Euro guys supporting the american teams like the #48 and #76 cars. I wonder if Flying Lizard is going to go with Audi or McLaren. I can certainly see PWC teams moving to IMSA. I hope it does happen in fact.
