ff 1600 top speed??

We all know what our gear charts tell us repeed @ max revs. However I was thinking is/has the fastest top speed by a ff1600 been recorded anywhere ??
So if it has who/what/where.

I have a speedo on my Reynard it showed 111 mph before braking for Lodge....with a better engine which found me nearly 2 secs a lap,I only found another 1 mph. Years ago Roger Ecclestone was doing 117mph before Knicker. I don't think you could get more than 125mph however you geared it.

A F3000 driver told me he saw 173mph at Island nothing to do with your question but it impressed me.

Of the point a little but during 2 seasons in formula ford 1800 Zetecs the fastest places we found were

Thruxton 147mph
Castle Combe 136mph
Snetterton 138mph

Thruxton was unreal entering church flat and about 125mph !

I suspect that is a little of the famous "Daly artistic license" at work there Matt. We are only geared for 115-120mph @ Mallory, he may have been revving it to 8,500rpm though.....

I was once told that the quickest FF1600 recorded speed was 157mph somewhere in Oz. Have 1600s' been at Mt Panorama on the Conrod Straight?
blue nose is expecting his new Quicksilver lump to propel him into the 170-180mph bracket. The sad thing is he probably believes it

At Thruxton last year King Of Kents,Adrian Cottrell's top speed 138mph. You must have the correct circumference set in your logger (abc10 front 1660mm,rear 1748mm)otherwise the readings will be incorrect.
At Castle Combe's F3 meeting last year ,the MST had speed traps for 2 parts of the track, check out the web site, interesting the fastest cars did not win the race's.

Now look hear Diz...I find that offensive I would have thought 158mph so could you please stop exaggerating as this is a serious thread.

mattray has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
John are all the tyres that size? I have seen tyres up to 10mm different in circumfrence. Do you measure the tyre with the speed sensor on every time you change tyres?

Thats a fairpoint, also I believe the circ gets bigger with speed (like a dragster on a smaller scale!), so that would also be a factor.

So you should adjust the logger as you speed up round the track then? Do I need to get out and measure the tyres though?

Yes he got a Mega tow from Jan Haylen ,and the logger was set up right,So he did go that fast!!! the fastest we ever saw from a FF1600 was again at Thruxton, Warren Hughes in a Van Diemen RF 90 with a Scholar engine called Nelson, because we had found that the old Kent motor was still at that time been built in South Africa, So we got hold of 3 blank heads and blocks , got them to Alan and he biult the best 3 kents there ever was so he had one for the Works team and we got the other 2 ,they got the nicknames Nelson-winny-and mugabe.True to form Mugabe was not that good but Winny and Nelson were MEGA! and the speed on our logger 142MPH

My datalogger showed Mallory at about 123mph max, depending on wind direction.
Last years Jim Walsh race at Silverstone showed 133mph picking up a tow from Ed Moore down hanger straight towards Stowe.
No ards-tistic license here!

Alan , on a 1 04 39 lap on fosters Neil Jones in my RF90/91 shows max of 114 up to druids and 115mph into lodge.
Max speed at Angelsey was 105 up to hairpin on a 47.51 lap,96 mph into school.
