As well he should. He is a team builder and as good as massa is he is affected noticably by alonso and the accident. Noticble to him relatively, he is still balls out fast, but not a team#1.
This is not a critique on massa but a confirmation on how good Fernando is

It seemed like the natural thing for Alonso to do. He seems happy at Ferrari and has built the team around him. He seems to work well with Felipe, much better than his tricky relationship with Hamilton. With Massa recently signing his contract as well, this stability will be good for Ferrari. Although I suppose if they could hire Adrian Newey as well that might help.

I see Alonso has named Hamilton as his biggest rival still. I don't know if this is another bout of mind games by ignoring Vettel for the moment. See this :-

The extension yesterday morning by Fernando Alonso at Ferrari until 2016 now delivers more details. Reportedly the salary cumulative Spanish double world champion will be 96 million.

But there are details. The first and most important is that Fernando Alonso was not renewed for four years strong, but two years, with two additional option years. Meaning that it is willing to be free after 2014.

To recap, the current contract Fernando Alonso had a duration of five years (2013/2014 and 2010/2011/2012 optional). This is a new contract with a salary lowered.

Fernando Alonso's salary is 30 million euros a year *. Receive a salary that again next year. The new contract with Ferrari will give him 24 million euros per year **, a decrease of 20%.

* A gross salary because you have to remove 25% of agents' commissions (15% for Luis Garcia Abad and 10% for Flavio Briatore), which gives 22.5 million euros net.

** The net salary will be 18 million euros annually.

Gee I can deal with a net of 18 million even after taxes ....that is not a bad yearly haul, any bonus on performance or is the escape clause the real deal? Alonso is a real shrewd one.
