Suzuki switch to Michelin

Quote:
Team Telefónica MoviStar Suzuki today announced that for the remainder of the 2002 Grand Prix season they will be switching back to the Michelin tyres they had previously used for more than ten years.

The blue GSV-R V4 machines, ridden by former World Champion Kenny Roberts Jr. and GP winner Sete Gibernau, will be fitted with the French tyres from the Spanish GP at Jerez on May 5, the third of 16 championship rounds. At first, the Michelins will be 2001-spec tyres, with full support to follow after three to five races, in line with increased production of the latest tyres.
Well, going from how Roberts gave up so easily and Gibernau was unhappy with the tyre performance in South Africa, I wonder how they will go for the rest of the year.

Makes you wonder why they ever did switch to Dunlop.

Suzuki and Dunlop will continue to cooperate in the ... All-Japan series ... as part of the powerful new prototype's radically shortened development schedule
why arent they using michelins in ajrr? wouldnt the testing data from ajrr be more usefull using the same ruber as the factory team?

thats a bit rough winther,
Info from Sth Africa is pretty minamal, but kenny pulled into the pits and they immediately put new rubber on the bike, obviously they were expecting it, or were at least aware that they were taking a tyre risk in that race.
Its a bit rough to assume at this stage of the season that Kenny just gave up.
I haven't heard any reports of that being the case, although like I said at the beginning of this post, i haven't heard much about what went on, other then Kenny saying "we knew there would be days like this".

At first, Kenny didn't give up. You're right about the first pit-stop, but he gave up afterwards by just coming into the pits and basically refusing to ride because it may have been a tad difficult.

To me, that's not fair on all the team.

OI!

Suzuki are good. My favourite rider is Kenny Roberts Jr. I also quite like Sete Gibernau. Shame on you Winther!

Kenny is a good rider, but he complains too much about the bike, even when he was in his world championship year he never really had anything good to say.
