Question Thundersport GP3

Sorry if this is in the wrong place -

What is it?

Can see they have a supported a race with motogp...

I guess it's not club racing? But it's not international?

Is it some championship running parallel to Motogp Moto2 Gp125 - However sponsors and prize money suggest it's not a major series? I'm confused even after visiting the website... The publicity doe not seem major nor clear?

Clever marketing makes it look like expensive international racing?

Seems like Small teams re-developing a road going 125cc two stroke of 250
4 stroke? or ex - GP bikes or what? confused .com

The regs seem very basic and entry seems possible for anyone? - it mentions moto Gp a lot, but the way it's put together seems more like club racing??

Anyone who knows the score please advise.

Its sort of the feeder formula for BSB, theya re running a few decent series, you can run Moto2 and 3 bikes there, I think the ACU are perhaps trying to tempt a few people to build a Moto3 bike!!

Thanks

Sort of confusing to me, as I do not follow bike racing closely yet have friends that compete in most categories.... could be embarrassing.

So More categories then...

I personally do not feel that Gp has been the same since phasing out two strokes. but still, I guess that's the way of the world.

More categories seems to make things harder to keep an eye what's going on (2 versions of). What are the best series to watch.

This thundersport GP3 thing seems very open, all a bit confusing... I thought it might be some championship to develop environmentally friendly alternatives but obviously not.

Seems like a cheaper version of the existing soon to expire Gp 125.. If it were to become moto3/GP3 I would expect coverage, sponsorship and budgets to go crazy - maybe pushing out current teams - that appear to be more like car club race teams at the moment (small engineering companies etc...)

Maybe running a 125 does not need to be as intensive as Motogp?? - I've been led to believe at previous 125/250Gp level (Rossi etc..) two stroke racing was very involved with multiple specialists and big budgets?? Which made me think Thundersport was like New era just with different machinery - although it seems to run with well know names..

Think the aim/angle needs to be more obvious for idiots like me who expect to find obvious answers easily.

Sorry for my stupidity - just like to have the answers.

Kind regards

I am not a huge club racing knowledge base, but what I know is that Thundersports GB try and cater for very many different types of bike. They do singles, modern twins, 2 strokes and 4's like the ld SS400 days.

MotoX type engines in new frmaes etc etc. If you have a look on thier site it shows you more detail.

2 stroke really needs to be phased out in everything but kids stuff as it really has a bad image rightly or wrongly and it's very difficult to control the emissions, more trick that a 4 stroke anyway!

In the old days guys liek Erv and Kel and Vukmanovich were hailed as geniuses as they were hugely involved in the design and runnin of the bike.

Nowadays you get the engine people from HRC, the telemetry guy, the tyre guy, the Ohlins guy, and some engineers and a chief engineer.

Just a different way of doing it

thanks again

Thanks Chunder - It was looking at the website that caused the confusion - not too familiar with any forms of racing specifically - motor cycle club racing especially.

Have friends involved with international bike racing ...hence the confusion when someone started talking about this Thundersport GP3 - had to look into it and got even more confused. Turns out a team are runnning from a local small engineering company and a couple people I know are involved...

Seems to be well backed i.e. support act for Moto GP (round) etc.. Superbikes too? with mentions of BSB etc.. but sponsorship is not massive and teams are small, the sites suggests newbies can enter..

Anyway moved on now - think I know enough to talk to the guys involved should it come up in conversation.
