Reported on SkysportsF1, it seems that 20mm flick ups will be allowed on the halo to direct airflow to the air box.

Of course it will. That's why I think Ferrari were so keen to dismiss the Shield after one lap of testing.

Agree with you Richard, next thing you know the halo will look like a front wing. |

So more bodywork...many, including myself, will say it will look to busy/not clean, but surely new areas of development is an exciting prospect....more and more I'm not sure if I should be appealed or intrigued with the new direction.
Been watching for long enough that I should take stock in the notion that if something makes a car faster that inherently means it's more beautiful? |

I hope you'll forgive me for not reading every post of the 72 pages but i wondered if the HALO could be made from a clear material similar to that used by fighter jets? That way you keep the design and principle of the HALO but perhaps remove some of the uglyness.

I am annoyed with the way this has been handled, it should have had more teams testing the shield than just Ferrari

None of the other teams wished to waste valuable time and budget to get involved. RBR said last year that they weren't prepared to invest any more resources for the halo, after it seemed as though another type of protection was going to be mandated.
My own view is that it should have been incumbent on the FIA to design whatever it is that they are going to use, or at least pay for it to be done for them. Why else do they get so much money from F1 if not to invest in safety related research? |

I still think the Halo has too many unanswered questions, no matter how many it's managed to overcome

The Ferrari shield was just a mockup. It was never capable of doing it needed to do (not even tested for deflection or strenth) and was doubtful it ever could and still remain viable.
The halo is not terrible and has benefit down the line to other open cockpit cars but I totally agree with the poor decision to rush to production (I see now they admit changes may occur between now and March 2018.) |

Every time anything changes there is a group that starts bemoaning the end of the world if it comes into being. Probably crash helmets, then full face helmets (Jack Brabham), seat belts(?), reworking circuits (Ickx), HANS (Barrichello), and now Halos (Grosjean, Hamilton). No change will ever be welcomed by everyone. |

F1 driver head protection
Havn't time to read all previous posts, so appologies if I am repeating this?
As it's Drag Racing that gave us Roll Over Bar protection in the first place...google pictures of how they protect their drivers heads in todays Dragsters. Yes, it true they only need to see straight ahead...but few F1 drivers seem to know if anyone's alongside them anyway! Also modern F1 helmets have very restricted periferal vision...I recal in Karting my sons team boss banning him wearing an F1 type helmet for this very reason! If Dragster style roll hoops were added over F1 drivers heads the sides of the front hoop could support rear view mirrors which positioned that close to the head would only need the driver to turn his eyes to see whats alongside. Just a thought. |

I really don't see any reason why F1 can't have a single seater cockpit. All the arguments against it have already been solved by other racing series. But it would actually require the FIA to get its **** together for once and apply something they didn't think of themselves.
