2CV 24hr Thanks!

Hello to all the men/women/others that wear orange!

Just want to say thank you for all the hard work and effort that you all put in during the 24hr race at Snett this weekend. As we all say, without you, there wouldn't be any racing!

I did try to wave to as many of you as possible during my 7 1/2 hours on track (most of these were windowless!) To recover from a roll and have 6 engine changes, yet still not finish last was a good result!! Needless to say, I will be doing this race again!!

Once again, Thank you all!!

Number 23, we was pleased to see you come out in the end from all the Timekeepers with match sticks holding our eyes open today. Good fun the 2 CV is for all

Thanks to all, drivers, officials and marshals.

I've caught up on my sleep now. It was a new experience for me as one of the safety car Observers. Most enjoyable once I'd settled into it. Special thanks to Mr Bird for putting me up for it and Terry Scannell for sharing the duty and his experience. Also the ladies on the other end of the radio with the clear concise instructions.

Was amazed at how the 2CVs were able to keep up with an M3 after we put the lights out for the restarts. Even with demonic Dunc at the wheel - probably the fastest over the bit from bridge to pitlane.

Finally, sorry about the lack of good radio procedure at the point when the 2nd light switch failed.

Thanks to all the Snetterton pit marshals for putting up with what must be chaos compared to a normal race meeting!

After a 3rd last year all of our team (Stinky) had mixed feelings at coming 4th.

We took the lead early and ran well, until about halfway through the race when the fan broke. After replacing the fan the car went back on circuit and proceeded to start using about as much oil as it was fuel. An engine change then followed and any hopes of getting one over on the bigger teams disappeared.

I thought I wasn't there to marshal but after the engine change the oil slick on the garage floor needed dressing before somebody slipped on it, and there was only one team member "qualified" to do the job. .

Brake pads were also an issue, we were going through them like they were made of cheese. Well, not quite, but having them nearly down to the metal after 11 hours is not ideal. They're not very easy to change when they're hot and our mechanic Martin went home with several blisters to prove it...

Anyway 4th is still a great result and overall we're happy with another successful weekend. Back to marshalling next weekend with the F3/GT at the Rock.

Another brilliant 24hrs - Many thanks to all the 2cv competitors and all those involved in the support races on Saturday.

Alasdair, was great to share the SC duties with you - you did a superb job and it was really appreciated thank you. Certainly think you are correct that several of the drivers were rather surprised on the ability of the 2cv's to hang on the back of the M3 as we came round Coram and into Murray's on our in laps - I can certainly vouch for the efforts that our drivers were making to open a gap mostly without great success although as you say I think Dunc had the most success on his in laps!!!

Many thanks to all the SC drivers during the event for their kind assistance and for the entertainment whilst awaiting the summons to scramble. Great to meet and chat with you all.

Brilliant work by the Red Rocket Recovery team too for the swift recoveries.

Once again the teamwork by all the marshals, medical, Race Control and Race Admin teams made the event run so smoothly as always from Friday evening qualifying to the end of the race on Sunday evening.

Webcast and radio coverage was greatly appreciated - keeping everyone up to date with race progress.

Thanks also to the 2cv Club for all the goodies and the radios etc and Barc for the food vouchers and to the MSV circuit team for the use of the hospitality suite during the off duty periods.

I'm not going to repeat what others have said, but to add to the list of thanks, I'd like to thank all the marshals and even a Clerk who came to look after me after I was shamelessly abandoned and left to do my shifts alone by my assigned buddy who got called in to a cushy little SC observing job

I'll be back for a 3rd installment of 2CV 24hr next year, whereever it is

Thanks to Terry and Alasdair and the drivers for their safety car work, and to the people in race control directing them.

Just before one of the safety car deployments, our car had recently unlapped itself and we were only slightly "ahead" of the leader as the cars came past, so we were a bit anxious when the yellow lights on the gantry came on. I needn't have worried, the M3 blasted off onto the circuit right in front of the leader. Perfect timing!

I'd also like to add my thanks to the marshals, officials and helpers who gave up so much time to allow us to do what we love which is driving round and round for 24hrs ...

In truth it's not the driving, it's the atmosphere, the camaradery, the 'new' friends you meet through adversity which ALL happens as a result of this great race. Glad the weather stayed alright for you boys & girls out there at the side of the track, much better than 2010 and the 2010 Britcar 24hr.

I was in Car #60, the Green Iceni Racing Machine.

In case anyone want to know what it looks like from inside the cabin of one of these things in day & night i've posted a couple of videos and will be positng loads more over the coming days.

Malcolm,
were your headlights solar powered??!!
They seemed to work a lot better in the day than they did at night!!

Many thanks to all the teams and drivers for another great event, great to see the Belgians with their experimental cars, I loved them.
Special thanks to Terry for letting me use Chateau Scannell.
Thanks to my various post mates, those that stayed awake!
Sorry I couldn't be at the after party, hope you all had a good time.

We had to be the fastest something!! It was very cold, very noisy, and I had to spend 20 mins looking for my visor, then swapping it with the peak that was on my lid!!

Another Team Stinky driver adding his thanks here - thanks to all the marshals, officials, timekeepers, and also the other drivers, for making the event what it was - lots of fun, and a great atmosphere.

Also thanks to all the hard working pit crews, mechanics, refuellers, caterers, tea-makers and general hard working dogsbodies that power every team!

Regarding the safety car - A 2CV driver will draft anything. The Belgian cars were pretty good for this, but the safety car also provides a good draft, which is probably why the 2CVs were trying to keep up

Another big thanks from me goes to my crew of media students, who were patient, talented, resourceful, and enormously enthusiastic given some of the problems we encountered early on, and a lack of sleep. We didn't quite get as many camera angles as I'd have liked, but I think we put on a good show to match the formidable commentary skills of Alan Hyde, Charlie Butler-Henderson (who was superb in the pitlane!), Lewis Beales and Jon Waldock.

We have over 80 hours of recorded footage to look through, but the hope is to produce a series of YouTube videos with different themes, as well as some sort of highlights feature, which we may make available as a DVD.

From Tete Rouge and from the Classic 2cv Racing club i would like to express our most sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this years event so enjoyable.
I know it's a cliche but we really couldn't do it without you all.If there are ways we could make it better for the marshals i would like to know, so if you have any suggestions please contact me through my profile.
We had fun i hope you all did(in that tiring sort of a way)

The team had HIDs fitted which were supposed to be for the Night running. However (and I am not in the least technical so apols in advance) the team said the alternator was 'overcharging' 16.x volts or something and that we'd fry the battery so they decided we'd leave the lights on full time.

I'm not quite sure this was a good idea as I always thought you lost power with your lights on, which we did seem very flat at the top end, anyway, as I said, I am not technical.

It appears we still had battery problems though as we had to replace it twice and I had complete light failure at one stage. For the last few hours we had no charging at all (hence no lights) but with 75 mins to go we were punted into the gravel at Murrays and with only a weak bettery we couldn't start the car ... so had to rely on you boys to get us back to the pits (thanks fellas)

Thanks Chris - your antics in the car certainly kept 'Mrs MonsterTreeMarshal' and I entertained on the Pit exit during our 10:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs shift on Sunday morning!!!! You were out for approx 3 hours, so that meant approximately 120 waves.... We were the marshals who came to seek you out after our shift, so were sorry we missed you! Curiously your colleagues thought that we had come to collect you in a special kind of jacket with long sleeves that tie up at the back....

I've waved to thousands of drivers at the end of races, but never for such a long time DURING the race - good on you!

Yea, did pop into your pit after 6-10pm shift had finished, think from what was told to he, you was hanging up in your specail padded room. with the jacket on so you not harm any one else, getting 'sleep' ready of next stint.

got asked but pit lane marshal, that walked past was there a problem with you...just he barking mad if had been real issue, wound have gone via Race control..was my reply
